Students

Are you a Māori tertiary student interested in gaining professional work experience in the Bay of Plenty over the summer break?

Be part of a kaupapa Māori Summer Internship Programme connecting Māori students from Te Moana-a-Toi (the Bay of Plenty) to high-value work opportunities across the Bay of Plenty’s high-growth industries.

What will you gain?

  • A paid 10-week internship, gaining professional work experience with a reputable organisation.
  • You will be part of a cohort of Māori students, forming lifelong friendships
  • You will be supported by a kaupapa Māori framework (think whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, and mātauranga), participating in preparation workshops with the wider student cohort, as well as industry tours and debrief sessions.
  • Connection, inspiration, and support from Māori leaders across the industry
  • And heaps of whanaungatanga!

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a Māori tertiary student working toward a degree or postgraduate degree-level qualification.
  • Have a strong connection to the Bay of Plenty, through either whakapapa or residency.
  • Be on your way to completing, or have completed, at least two years of study (all study options considered)
  • Be based in the Bay of Plenty over the summer break, as all positions will be located across the Bay of Plenty’s main centres (Tauranga, Rotorua and Whakatane).

Who will you be working for?

We have numerous well-known employers with placement opportunities, and we will work with you (and them) to find the right placement for you. The first step is to apply, detailing your study and your career aspirations.

Each summer we partner with key employers across the industry to provide professional work opportunities to Māori tertiary students who strongly connect to the Bay of Plenty.

Past employers have included Zespri, Robotics Plus, Apata, Seeka, Matū, and more. Roles have included Digital/IT interns, communication interns, finance & investment interns, ecologists, lab technicians, and everything in between.
