The sample came from the town of Stratford and around a thousand tests have been completed in the region since Friday.

Taranaki DHB's incident management controller Becky Jenkins said around 600 tests have returned a negative reading.

She said the highest testing rates were in Stratford East and West, with Māori testing rates per head of population higher in those areas.

The results of recent wastewater samples in Taranaki are expected to be available on Wednesday.
