A review of drug buying agency Pharmac is being described as long overdue.
It'll cover the drug funding agency's decision-making processes, but won't delve into budgets, due to 'commercial sensitivities'.
Cancer Society medical director Dr Chris Jackson told Mike Hosking we need to work out how we can see whether Pharmac is delivering what it's supposed to.
He says we don't have the same number, range or speedy access to drugs as other countries.
Jackson says it's heartbreaking knowing outcomes for his patients would be better, if he had access to the same drugs as his Australian colleagues.
