Patrick Gower weighs in on Sharma's fate ahead of caucus meeting

Patrick Gower is predicting rogue MP Gaurav Sharma will be expelled from caucus today after he made a flurry of unsubstantiated claims about his own party.

The claims included widespread bullying within the Party, which he says the Prime Minister is trying to cover up, and accusations Labour is consciously trying to skirt freedom of information laws.

Labour has rejected all of Dr Sharma's allegations but has not agreed to an independent inquiry into them or complaints against the MP from staffers. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the issues arose after the Whips tried to resolve a staffing matter in his office.

He was suspended from caucus last Tuesday, but now faces expulsion after continuing to launch grenades at his party in a Newshub interview last Thursday.

Speaking with AM on Tuesday Newshub national correspondent Patrick Gower said he believes Labour will expel the MP today.

"He's going to go in there and get destroyed. Winter is coming for Gaurav Sharma, the Labour Party winter," Gower said.

"They will send him to Siberia. That's what it is called. I was actually working in Parliament when the last Labour MP was expelled, it's right up the back of Parliament, it's actually called Siberia because it's so far away and because of the cold winds that will blow off the Labour caucus who will absolutely hate his guts."
