Moves from National leader Judith Collins to demote MP Simon Bridges sparked anger, confusion and frustration within the party.

"One thing is abundantly clear to me is that Judith Collins must resign. Her actions are just downright appalling, the way that this has been handled.
"The fundamental issue is the National Party must get rid of Judith Collins as the leader and those in the wider leadership that have supported this."
Taranaki-King Country MP Barbara Kuriger
"When you work your butt off every day you don't want to be standing here answering questions like this so it's pretty disappointing.
"I'm proud of the members of our party. Am I proud about what's going on in there? No."
Whanganui-based list MP Harete Hipango
"There's a house that needs to be tidied, there's some cleaning that needs to be done."
Rangitikei MP Ian McKelvie
"I'm not comfortable… We need to give the New Zealand public a credible alternative.
"I think it's inevitable that we were going to be disappointed with something like this. Our people are disappointed in what's going on and I think we owe it to… the New Zealand public to at least put a credible Opposition up there and manage ourselves."
Whangaparāoa MP Mark Mitchell
"I am committed to my electorate and they voted me in, and they're the ones I'm ultimately responsible to and so I'll stick out and stay with my commitment to them, without a doubt.
"I'm also committed to the National Party. We're much bigger than one person, we've got a big voluntary organisaton and we owe it to them to do the best possible job we can."
Botany MP Christopher Luxon
"These are matters for [the] caucus. We'll discuss it there and I've got nothing further to say."

"I'm not going to comment on stuff until we've had a chance to hear from all sides and that's really important.
"It's important that we have these discussions in a way that allows everyone to have their say and I'm not convinced that's happened so far."
