A national remembrance service will be held in Christchurch in March to commemorate the second anniversary of the terror attacks at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques.

The event will be held on 13 March and the programme for this year's service will be based on 2020 event which had to be cancelled due to COVID-19.

The Christchurch City Council said the event is to be held on March 13, rather than the actual anniversary of 15 March, as it is hoped that more people will be able to attend on the weekend.

The national remembrance service, Ko Tatou, Tatou We Are One will be held at Christchurch Arena starting at 3pm.

The council said the programme is based on what was planned for the 2020 event, which was put together with input from those affected by the attacks, including survivors and families of victims.

Students from two schools heavily impacted by the attacks, Burnside and Cashmere high schools, will perform music at the service.

Local Muslim leaders, the mayor, and other dignitaries will also take part.

The council said the service will be live-streamed for people overseas to allow those unable to travel due to COVID-19 border restrictions to attend the event.
