Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun said today that the Government has made a very good start in attracting talent to Hong Kong through talent admission schemes.

Speaking to the media, Mr Sun highlighted that over the past year and a half around 120,000 individuals have come to Hong Kong through various talent admission schemes.

This includes more than 50,000 who have come under the Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS).

Mr Sun said: “We have just conducted a first-round survey, asking questions and getting information from people coming to Hong Kong under the TTPS.”

According to data from the survey, around one-third of TTPS arrivals are engaged in the finance industry, while around 18% are in innovation and the information technology industry. Around 17% are engaged in commerce.

The average salary for those coming to Hong Kong under the TTPS is around $50,000, well above the median pay of the city’s wage earners.

Around a quarter are earning more than $100,000 a month, while around 10% are earning more than $200,000 a month.

“We will keep on our good effort,” the labour chief added. “We want to make use of this very good start to project Hong Kong and make sure that Hong Kong remains the talent hub in this part of the world.”
