In the run up to the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election, Trinamool Congress (TMC) came up with a number of song-turned-slogans, that went viral.

'Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chay' (Bengal wants its own daughter), was one of the songs that was used in every Trinamool campaign projecting Mamata Banerjee as the next CM of Bengal. The 'daughter' referred to here by TMC, was Mamata Banerjee.

Almost five months after Mamata Banerjee's landslide victory, and with the bypoll just a few days away, Trinamool MLA and senior leader Madan Mitra, has come up with a new rendition, which now aims at an audience outside Bengal. He sings: 'India Wants Her Beti'.

TMC SINGS 'INDIA WANTS HER BETI'

"It is the season of worshipping Maa Durga. Bypoll, 2024 general elections, and the entire situation in the country, have made me come up with this song. After Bengal, the entire country wants its daughter now," said Mitra.

When asked if he thinks whether Mamata Banerjee, who is a daughter of the country, should become the PM, he said "yes".

"Bengal has already chosen. India will now choose her daughter. If not Mamata, then who?" Madan Mitra told India Today TV while humming the song.

He was also confident that Mamata Banerjee would sweep the bypolls as well.

The BJP, however, took a dig at the song with party leader Samik Bhattacharjee saying, "If TMC is so confident, why are they worried?"

"In 2019, Mamata Banerjee took nine parties and dreamt of going to Delhi. People, however, chose Modi because of stability. Earlier, they had made a song for Bengal. Now, they are saying that India wants her beti. India, however, will re-elect Narendra Modi in 2024," said Bhattacharjee to India Today.
