As the last dragon shifter, I live alone, hiding in one of Earth’s sacred deserts. My human handlers tell me that I have no parents, no name, and no purpose other than to train for battle and one day become a vessel for the reincarnation of Chimera, the greatest dragon shifter of all. Sadly, Chimera’s rebirth will mean my own death. But my handlers say this sacrifice is a noble fate that will rebuild the dragon shifter world.

I shall die on my seventeenth birthday. That’s five days from now.

Then I hear music thumping across the desert. I take my mortal form, follow the sound, and find humans dancing in what they call a rave. There is a stage and a rock band. One thing quickly becomes clear: Unlike the audience, the musicians are dragon shifters, just like me. And one of them, the guitar player Rhodes, makes my knees turn watery. The lead singer, Kaps, has something strangely familiar about her.

It all adds up to one conclusion: My handlers lied to me. I’m not the last of my kind. Memories reappear. I had parents once. Portia and Tempest. I even had a name. Zinnia. Perhaps I have a reason to live as well. I step past the dancing humans to confront the players.

I will find out the full truth, no matter what.

Zinnia is happiest when she gets to see her friend Rhodes and play music together, it seems like that is the only time her magic works as she wants it to. When a threat shows up to steal her twin, Zinnia risks it all and sacrificing herself. Her life is now one of slavery and upcoming death, her family forgotten through a spell- but one thing remains is that her will to be free and find out her truths has never failed her. Rhodes lost his best friend and possible mate when he was only 11, now his life is full of responsibility and expectations- that is until a concert in the desert changes everything.

Anyone who knows me, knows of my love for all things Christina, be it her Angelbound Origins series, the Fairy Tales of the Magicorum series, or the Drift Dimension series. I have learned to expect fun, fast paced plots and great characters from a Bauer book and I have yet to be disappointed. When I was offered the opportunity to read her newest book, Zinnia, I was happy enough to do the Snoopy dance. I did not realize that this was the third book in the Angelbound Origins series (how can there be 2 previous books that I legit had no clue about??) and I was a little concerned that I was going to miss out of not having read the first two books. I would love to have read the first two Angelbound Offspring books but I am happy to report that this worked well enough without needing any explanation, having it's own conflict, characters and resolution.

I think the best way to describe the story would be to call it an angsty Paranormal Romance, with some action thrown in for flavor. I thought the first like 35% of the story was really sad, which is basically unlike any other Bauer story that is predominantly snark, sarcasm and humor, but this one began with death, destruction, sorrow and a dash of abuse/imprisonment. Don't get me wrong, as always it was compelling, well written and with the best of characters- it was just sadder than I anticipated. I ended up speeding through the pages until the two main characters met and then I found myself slowing down, savoring each interaction up until the end. Hands down, Christina can write some of the best, fill you up with love, romances- and this was the perfect example of it. Move over Prince Lincoln, Rhodes needs his own spot in my heart.

It is a given that I will happily gobble up anything this author wants to write because I know I am always going to get an engaging, completely unique read that I will not be able to put down. I need to now go back and read Maxon and Portia's books- and try to patiently wait until I can get Rhodes next book which sounds like it might end up being just as heartbreaking as I thought this one started out as. I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes music, romance, possible end of the world antics, heartbreak, magic and dragons!

I reviewed a complimentary copy of this title.

What a fun read! Every page is entertaining as an exciting story unfolds...one with magic, dragons, a little romance and a villain to despise.

Zinnia has a wonderful life as a very, young princess, and even more so with her favorite friend. He plays the music and she adds the words. Together, they literally form magic. But one day, she's kidnapped, and the evil doers convince everyone she's really dead. They plan to use her as the center of a very sinister plan, and no one is wiser for it. Living in a cave, Zinnia has no memory of her past or who she really is. She only knows that she is suppose to be the vessel for a special magic, and she accepts this. That is, until she hears the music from a band and suddenly has the desire to escape.

The first chapters how Zinnia as a sweet, little girl, and it's hard not to like her. So, when she's kidnapped, the story grabs and I found myself cheering and hoping for her. Her decisions are understandable, and she never comes across as someone who simply gives in. She's a wonderful heroine to love and root for.

The story is also told from her best friend's point of view. He's kind, strong and yet, natural. His decisions make sense, and his frustrations with Zinnia's sister and friends are understandable. He's not over the top, but stands by Zinnia's side. This isn't love at first sight, but builds on friendship and ends with the promise of more to come.

It's easy to read, which makes it a perfect book to simply get lost in without seeking extreme depth or thought. It's simply an enjoyable ride into dragon-shifter fantasy with enough intrigue and action to keep the reader guessing the entire way through.

I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed the story even more than I thought I would. So, I'm leaving my honest thoughts.

Just me thinking and writing. I so, hope that you have read the first two books of this series. It was not a requirement, but let me say that it would most certainly allow for you to have a deeper connection to sweet Zinnia and the other characters that you meet. I loved Angelbound Origins and even with more being added to their story it makes the world that Christina Bauer built come alive with life having real exchanges and constant ebbs and flows. Now, with the the Angelbound Offspring spin-off series, we get a deeper look at the world, the lives, the characters, the children. I for one have very much enjoyed each and every step of the way. With the tap of the screen and the changing of the page, I fell more in love with sweet, soft, little Zinnia. I implore you too to come and see what the big deal is all about.

I so do not like giving things away especially when the journey for yourself will be more enjoyable exploring it all on your own. Dragons will always be my most favorite of the paranormal/fantasy worlds species. And meeting Zinnia was just icing on a cake that I did not even realize I was wanting to take a huge bite out of. Watching Zinnia believe she would die in a matter of days to discovering that she was not alone in the world. She was not the only living dragon. She was not alone. She was so much more than her handlers told her. As she discovery the truth the world she knows and doesn't know open up a new set of possibilities.

Oh man. She's at it again! Let's be aware of something: Christina Bauer is amazing. Okay, now that we have that cleared up, let me tell you something else. YOU HAVE TO READ ZINNIA.
I loved getting to know Zinnia and following her as she uncovers the lies she's been told by her handlers. And it's brilliant that she figures this all out by coming across a band of dragon-shifters. This book definitely surpasses my expectations, of which I had them set pretty high because Bauer's books are just that amazing. Grab this book. You know you wanna!

DISCLAIMER: I received an eGalley of this book as part of a blog tour.

****

I was really looking forward to the story of Zin, as after finisihing Portia & T I was unsure how the story continues. This was one of the reasons I was so looking forward what’s about to come and what fate has in store for Portia & T but also how Zin ended up forgetting her family and so.

What I can say for sure, I was not getting disappointed. The story was fun to read and I really enjoyed Zin, especially her way of talking (I mean, “You Di**”) but it was also so lovely to refer to Rhodes as “my Rhodes” nearly immediately. You really can feel what Zin is feeling, the author’s writing was amazing again. Zin was separated from her family and friends for quite some time but she’s strong, so strong, and once she met Rhodes, oh my Rhodes, it only got better. He felt from the beginning that they have a one-of-a-kind connection, even though he didn’t know it’s Zin.

This made the story fun to read because as a reader you obviously know the background but joining Zin & Rhodes on their story to figure it out for themselves as well was great. I did enjoy the other members of the band and hope to read more about them in the next book.

Speaking of which, the next book “Rhodes” is already on my list, because the ending Zin & Rhodes have right now is not yet satisfactory for me – I need to see that they get their well deserved HEA.
And I must admit, and I am sorry T, but Rhodes is just the best dragon-shifter so far :)

Zinnia is the third book in the Angelbound Offspring series, set in the world we all know and love.
This installment is a tad different though since it takes place mainly on earth instead of one of the realms. We move quite a bit around and it was great to see how the dragons and the world-shy Zinnia interacted with the humans they encountered (let alone the condiments ;) )

Character development was good. Zinnia is a bold and headstrong young woman who has been kept sheltered (and captive, and lied to) as far as she can remember, cut off from the world. She knows what she wants and she will go out and find it even if it means disobeying her handlers. Zinnia doesn't grow as much in this regard, as she already had these strong qualities, but as she interacts with the gang and learns about the world, we see her come into her own.
Rhodes has gone through a lot and with Kaps on his hands, there isn't a dull or annoying day... ever. No, that's actually not true cause Kaps is annoying as hell, leaving the group behind, running off on some treasure hunt, nearly getting killed. All in a days work as her bodyguard. But as soon as he sees Zinnia, feelings he thought long lost resurfaces and it feels difficult for him to get a grip or even realize what it would mean.
As for the other cast members, I'm sure we will see them in the books to come. Since Rhodes, Kaps and Huntress will each get their own installment.

Pacing and flow were good. There was never a dull moment and the balance between action and conversation was very well done, especially since there was quite a lot explaining to do about Zinnia's disappearance and what happened to her all those years.

The book itself was well written with no (noticeable) errors.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and all in all I liked it. Not as much as the previous ones since it did feel a bit 'incomplete'. This is the first installment that has a story which spans multiple books. So I hope we can get to the bottom of the story in the next installment 'Rhodes'.

It's out of the norm for me to read more than one book in the series, especially if it's one of my favorites and it's very, very rare I read any of the books/ series set in the same world. There is a reason for that. Most of these stories just aren't as good.

Well, there is an exception to every rule. The entire Angelbound world is the perfect example. Not only I adore the original series (there isn' a book in that series that I don't' love), I'm loving the Angelbound Offspring series as well. :)

Zinnia is very unique, very intense, and very, very good. :) I love the writing, the storyline, the characters, .... you just have to read it! :)

Zinnia is furor dragon, shapeshifter, and a princess. she discovered her magic through the music, with her best friend.

One day they are attacked with a strong weapon and in order to protect those she loves, she surrenders herself.

In captivity, her memories are erased. She is kept on Earth, in a dessert, convinced she is the last Furor and will participate in the ceremony on her birthday and die.

Few days before that, she hears music and the music awakens something in her, brings back a few snippets of her old life, just enough so she can escape. Even without her memories, she is strong, follows her instincts and tries to tray on her own. Now outside of captivity, she travels with a musician she heard. Working on remembering before her time is up.

It's one of those books that pulls you in and you just have to finish it. She plotline is swift and keeps you on your toes all along. I read in one sitting and was blown away...

ARC from NetGalley

Well this was the worst of the lot thus far, but not because the story was worse or the characters intolerable, though I really do want to punch Kaps in the jaw. She is so irritating. This book was just.. did anyone beta this?

I'm just going to paste the notes I took. There will be some sort of spoilery things:
This is really cheap writing. First thing she does is look around her room and tell us what she sees. Then she looks at herself in the mirror.

Okay they are supposed to be 9 and 10 and they are talking like this? Hardly believable.

Okay they wrote a song together a few years ago, but she is 9.

Okay those song lyrics are awful and people are fawning over it why? I guess that makes sense, since she is 9, but these yeah why fawning? Also because 9?

Okay not talking like a 9-year-old.

Oh yeah they would indeed make sure to put their emblem on their bomb.

Okay so never mind he can't fucking recognize her face. It's been 10 years, but she has a twin sister. They can't look that different. Plus her tail scales are black, which apparently is only for royalty but he doesn't even blink? Even her twin sister doesn't recognize her?

These lyrics are all so very, very bad.

Okay so she looks enough like her twin sister to fool some mages who know her, and her twin sister suggested that she pretend to be her because she thought she could pass as her, and Rhodes agreed that this was feasible, but NO ONE RECOGNIZED HER? JFC.

It has been seven years since Zinnia was taken from her family and her memories erased. She now believes that she is the last dragon shifter and that it is her destiny to become the reincarnated vessel of Chimera. Unfortunately, when Chimera is reborn … Zinnia will die. This will all happen on her seventeenth birthday, only five days away. These plans change when she hears music across the desert, goes to check it out, and realizes that the members of the band on stage are all dragon shifters. She is not the last one! Once she realizes that her handlers were lying to her; memories begin to resurface. Will Zinnia be able to overcome the handlers who have been controlling her? Will she find the family she was taken from seven years earlier?

Zinnia is the third book in the Angelbound Offspring series. Although this story can be enjoyed without reading any of the previous books, it is fun to see the other characters appear throughout the story. There is a little bit of romance and a lot of adventure as these shape-shifting teenagers try and save one of their own. Once again this is a very quick read and I like that I don’t have to spend a lot of time trying to follow along. The alternating voices give the reader greater insight and a broader appreciation of this dynamic world. I can’t wait to read the next book, Rhodes, very soon.

Now that I am on the 3rd book of this series I'm starting to lose more and more interest. When I found out about this series I picked up "Maxon" and was very invested in the story. It was a fresh new take on different realms and how you can be with who you want to be with despite them being different than you.

Now I'm just over the stories in general. I powered through it just because this was Portia and Tempest's daughter but I was very disappointed with that story as well (book 2).

Everything feels RUSHED, I mean how can you get invested with characters when you feel like it's introducing them and then turn the page and rushing them to a HEA?

If these books were split up into two, and there was WAY more character development within them then I would be giving this book 5 stars. I want to FEEL the emotions, manifest that person in my mind, play the movie while I'm reading in my head...SOMETHING...ANYTHING!!

I wouldn't discredit the books just because they are rushed, if that is your type of reading and want a quick story then this will definitely be your kind of book!

Well, that settles it. Christina Bauer is just downright amazing. Zinnia is a whole new timeframe with many familiar names and soon to be familiar faces! It is totally a MUST-READ, especially to set you up for the next few books. As for her story, I once again {falsetto} LOVED it. Having been told she's the last of the dragon-shifters and must lose her life at age 17 (just a few days off), she meets an amazing band at a rave and the band is made up of - you guessed it - dragon shifters. This is where she meets Rhodes...as in Book 4, Rhodes. So yes, this book is outstanding, a whole new world of fun and drama, action and romance. Don't miss it!

Received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair review.

When I saw this on NetGalley I was very excited! The Angelbound series was one I couldn’t put down and to see there were more books (that I hadn’t yet read) I jumped at the opportunity to read more.

I really enjoyed The story, I liked the main characters and how they had this friendship and were able to grow into something more. It was fast paced, and kept me reading to see what happened next.

I like how with each addition to the series the world lore increases and we get to see the same characters again. It was so easy to fall back into the world after time away.

I will say that is not a complex fantasy, the plot is very straight forward - and I enjoy that on occasion, it’s nice to be able to chose the style and complexity of
Stories. But if you are looking for a twisty story with multiple plot lines then this isn’t it.

I am jumping straight into Rhodes (the next in the series) because I need to know what happens next!

This book takes us almost completely away from the characters of the main angelbound series, and that's totally ok! It's a new generation of unique people and personalities that add color and depth to this world. I do recommend reading at least book two before this one as it will add background as to why Zinnia has been lied to and what chimera is capable of. Rhodes has to help Zinnia regain her memories before she becomes the vessel of chimera or the dragon world is doomed, and neither one knows it! Zinnia's innocence regarding the real world is sweet and totally hilarious. However, she has been trained to be a warrior and doesn't hesitate to fight when she has too. There is violence but no explicit adult content which I think was the perfect touch as Zinnia has been sheltered from everything and everyone for years. The ending kept me tense until the last moment, just waiting in hopes that it would all work out. That sister though, she's a sneaky one lol.

I was so super excited to read this book. I love Christina's writing and this book fit right in. Zinnia's story was superb. I have waited patiently to read it and it did not disappoint. You don't have to read the first two in this spin-off series from the Angelbound books (amazing btw) but it does help you understand Zinnia a bit more.
Zinnia is the last dragon shifter and going to die....except she finds that she has been lied to and that she isn't the only one left. In fact, there is a lot to be discovered when she meets up with other dragon shifters. I loved how naive Zinnia was but how awesome! Amazing skills and amusing things happen just because she is has been lied to and kept sheltered. The other characters, especially Kaps and Rhodes are amazing. I cannot wait for more from Ms. Bauer!
It was a 5/5 for me! Love it.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

You could say I’m obsessed with Christina Bauer’s writing. She has a vivid imagination and it really comes through in her world building and characters.

Zinnia is the 3rd book in the Angelbound series. I really enjoyed this one. I loved getting to know Zinnia. She is a wonderfully developed character, that I was instantly connected to. She feels real and this was a very character driven novel.

The world-building is fantastic. I absolutely loved escaping into Zinnia’s world. This is the third book, and while you can read this as a standalone, I think reading the other books is important to gain more respect and love for the world and overall plot of the series.

I recommend checking this one out! Definitely an awesome read.

This book starts out with Zinnia, or Zin, at age 9. She is supposed to be taking a nap with her sisters Kaps and Huntress, but naps are for losers and she is planning to make her escape to go meet LT, or Rhodes, so they can make music and magic together. Everything seems to go wrong and this loving family is separated for what seems like forever. I love the family involvement, especially the ending, it shows true love between family members. One of my favourite parts of this book is, of course, the ultra-romantic love story that literally beats all other love stories. Not to mention, the magic of music. Music is very healing for people suffering trauma and other things in real life so I thought this showed a new and brilliant perspective from Christina Bauer. To make something that is so meaningful and healthy for so many people into a force of good in this fantasy series is just amazing. Bravo!

As often happens this book was published out of order – as further/later books in this series have already come out. But it was worth waiting for as it I found it better than some of the others in this series – right up to last 20% where it began to ‘fail’.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed Zinnia as a character – her confusion about the outside world, her general character trained as it was by her captors, and her interaction with the band. Her sister was less interesting and seemed to be a very clumsy treasure hunter considering how long she had been undertaking it.
Bauer is an author who is inconsistent in her writing quality – some is excellent and some lacks that pazzazz that makes you want to read more – which was how I started with AngelBound – the Offspring have often been a little lacklustre. This one less so, so 4 stars.

If you are a fan of paranormal anything and aren't reading Christina Bauer, what are you even doing with your life? Seriously, I wish I'd found her ages before I did and now that I have I'm never letting go!

Zinnia's situation is Complicated with an extra large capital C. Secrets, lies, self-sacrifice and romance all with a heaping helping of teenage angst. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?! Add in some rock music, a swoony book boyfriend (Oh Rhodes. Just... yeah ) Really though, this story and the rest of the series (and all her series' truly) are well crafted, fun to read and just spectacular.

If you like fantasy, this author is for you!

RECOMMEND!

This was really fun. It has dragons, magic, music (even though the lyrics were a bit poor), love...

The characters were a lot of fun, though it was weird that Rhodes didn't add 2 and 2 together sooner.
I loved how Zinnia was so cut out of everything. It sort of felt like she was speaking a second language when talking to other people because there was so much she didn't know about the world around her, but that wasn't replicated fully when we are in her POV, so it was weird at first.

I liked how the story progressed slowly and the tension due to the reader knowing more than the characters and hoping they'll figure it out.

Honestly, I didn't like this book at all which is such a shame considering I love CB's other books. The writing style seemed very childish and I wasn't a fan of it. I understand that this book starts when the characters are very young however, the way they speak as they grow older doesn't change. There's no character development. For example, both refer to the other as "My Rhodes" and "My Zinnia" and not in a cute way either but in a 3 year old throwing a tantrum kind of way.

I would not recommend this book however, I will keep an eye out for her other books because as previously said this is one of the only books by CB that I haven't enjoyed.

This is the story of Zinnia and Rhodes, childhood friends who are torn apart by an evil conspiracy. When they find each other again as teenagers, the question becomes: will they remember each other--and their love--before it's too late? Hilarious scenes ensure, many of which involve cats. That is all.

I fell in love with the Angelbound world when I read Myla's story in the first book of the Angelbound world and I have honestly and truly loved continuing this world with her offspring in the Angelbound Offspring world.

Zinnia is about Myla's granddaughter and Portia's daughter. When Zinnia was a just a little girl she was taken from her family and her best friend Rhodes, her Rhana or soulmate. Zinnia's memory is erased and she is told that she is the last of her kind and is the only one who can save her people.

Zinnia trains her whole life to save her people from extinction. She is lied to over and over. She knows something is not quite right with her situation and is determined to find the truth. Can Zinnia find the answers she needs? Will she ever get her memories back? Can she find a way out of her predicament? Can she find her way back to her Rhana and her family?

Zinnia is an amazing addition to the Angelbound world. It will keep you on your toes with all the action and twists and turns. The characters are all so believable and so real. You feel as if you are right there with them and a part of their world. You feel as if you could just reach right out and touch a dragon and know what its scales would feel like. Then there's the tail that Zinnia inherited from her grandmother Myla, now you have to respect the tail.

When I am reading any of the Angelbound books I can see them playing out in my head like a movie. Oh I would so love to see the Angelbound world on the big screen as a series or movie. This is one amazing world that I can't in no way seem to get enough of and can't wait for the next book in this world.

I highly recommend Zinnia and any of the books in the Angelbound world to anyone who are into to dragons, demons, magic, love and really good books.

Zinnia what a great story.
She is an amazing character, she cannot remember who she is but she fights to get her memories back. She meets Rhodes at a concert in the desert and feels a connection to him, she trusts him and goes on a road trip with the band so she can experience life before hers ends.

I read this book so quickly I couldn't put it down once I started.

Book 3 of the Angelbound Offspring series did not disappoint. I was hooked from the first page and kept going until, all too soon, I reached the end of the book.
My consolation, is that I can go straight on to book 4, Rhodes....
