The Diversity and Inclusion Committee of Kings is dedicated to bringing books into the K-6 classroom libraries that celebrate, embrace, and educate our children on human diversity. Children that are underrepresented will have books in the classroom with characters that resemble them and share their challenges. These books will instill empathy, pride, and understanding of topics such as socio-economic status, bullying, handicaps, culture, race, ethnicity, religion, art, and the elderly.
Teachers need our help. Teachers are on our team and are the front lines helping our children navigate these complicated topics. They see the dynamics between children and are often the first to realize that someone is feeling excluded. Classroom libraries are provided by the teachers or from donations.
Our goal is to purchase a minimum of 3 books into each classroom and 18 copies of approved novels for the 6th grade Language Arts. All proceeds raised will be spent on these books and if we end up with additional funds those will be applied to bringing diverse toys into classroom.
Myself and Sommer Bradds will be administering this account, sourcing vendors, and purchasing books. All the children in the King’s Local School District thank you for your contribution to a better education. We have many recommended books already with content approved by the teachers. We are also looking for book suggestions and connections with organizations that provide books.
