Brie Larson Joins Michael B. Jordan Legal Drama Just Mercy

According to Deadline, Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson is in final negotiations to star alongside Michael B. Jordan in Just Mercy, a legal drama from Warner Bros. It will reunite her with her Short Term 12 director Destin Cretton

The report is bereft of much detail, but does detail the plot of Just Mercy as “an adaptation of Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson’s 2014 memoir on his first case, Walter McMillan, a young black man sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. Despite his airtight alibi, McMillian was convicted and spent six years on death row before being exonerated.”

Just Mercy will be written and directed by Gretton, and co-written by Andrew Lanham (The Glass Castle).

Larson and Jordan are both members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the former starring in Captain Marvel with Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) and Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy). Anna Boden (It’s Kind of a Funny Story) is directing the superhero flick alongside Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson).

Jordan earned critical acclaim for his performance as the villain Killmonger in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther earlier this year. His next film, Creed II, has him reprising his role as Adonis Johnson alongside Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa. Steven Caple Jr. (Rapture) directs.

Captain Marvel will swoop into theaters March 8, 2019, while Creed II is set to knock out audiences November 21.
