KLIA Baggage System Overhaul Awarded To T7 Global And Siemens

T7 Kemuncak Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of T7 Global Berhad in cooperation with Siemens Logistics Pte. Ltd. was
awarded to upgrade the Baggage Handling System (BHS) at Terminal 1 KL International Airport.

The parties will have to design, supply, install, test, and commission a state-of-the-art Baggage Handling System that will feature the Siemens Logistics VarioBelt, belt conveyor. With VarioStore, Terminal 1 is receiving a modern Early Bag Store (EBS) that will give the airport a storage capacity of 2,500 bag positions, which is higher than the current storage capacity. The EBS enhances the processing of transfer baggage and allows passengers to check in earlier.

Michael Schneider, Executive Vice President at Siemens Logistics, said: “In a consortium with T7 Global, and with our advanced technologies, we will contribute added value to our customer’s journey towards increasing its capacities.” The Project will be executed in three sections whilst the airport is in operation. Siemens Logistics will provide the latest conveying technology including VarioTray to boost baggage throughput. The VarioTray, a high-speed conveyor system connected between the Main Terminal Building and Satellite A, will enable bags to be transferred swiftly and securely between the two buildings. In addition, the system will have high-performance low-level, and high-level (BagIQ) control software, which enables the smart management of baggage handling processes and completes the overall offering.

T7 Kemuncak is responsible for BHS installation, steel support construction, refurbishment of SCADA control rooms, server rooms and X-Ray Screening rooms, IT infrastructure, installation of Std 3 CT screening machines, and BIM modelling up to LOD 500 with Interface Management. The project management team has the competency to deliver the project in a live airport environment without intervening in the daily airport operations.
