While organisations need stand out products and services to be competitive, to remain competitive, organisations need much more. We believe the much more includes how organisations manage people, culture and data.
The world of work is changing at an unprecedented rate. Other than the COVID-19 pandemic, there are four other disruptive forces including demographic imbalances, geopolitics, technology and economic contraction that are accelerating the future of work.
Written by Jaclyn Lee and Jovina Ang, the book focuses on the three fundamental elements of organisational success. The book is unique because it is a culmination of the authors' practical experiences and observations of how leaders and managers are managing the modern organisation.
The authors draw upon the best practices from the top employers in Asia and across the world to illustrate the proven strategies for inculcating a digital and a data driven culture for making the right decisions and getting the most out of people. And they also refer to the many insights from leading thought leaders to substantiate their arguments throughout the book.

Review
This book on people, culture and data is an important contribution to managing change and leadership in this era of many unexpected events and rapid change. Authors Jovina Ang and Jaclyn Lee have argued their points very clearly and have provided clear frameworks on managing people, culture and data management for the modern organisation.
I particularly like the chapters on 'What got you here won't get you there' and 'Looking through the Future Lens'. I highly recommend this book for all leaders and managers.
There is much written about the specific topics of People, Culture and Data. Authors Jovina Ang and Jaclyn Lee bring all three together in a practical, linked manner supported with cases studies and numerous anecdotes that provide rich insights and actionable takeaways.
This book is an important, timely read for leaders and managers alike across the organisation as they look for ways to successfully navigate the ever-changing workplace, attract and retain talent and drive an inclusive culture.
This book is a treasure trove for all leaders, managers and board directors. It is filled with lots of great ideas, practical examples and case studies for leaders to build an aspirational and a data-centric culture. It also shows in detailed steps how leaders can manage people, culture and data effectively in this age of rapid disruptions.
I have read the book in detail- it is very engaging, fast paced, easy to read and so relevant to the current situation. I strongly recommend this book.
This book is a much needed read for leaders and managers who are going through rapid changes in their organisations as a result of digital transformation and the pandemic. The authors have provided an extensive background and context of the challenges faced by modern organisations, and how the successful integration of Culture, People and Data help provide a competitive advantage.
The practical examples, step by step instructions, as well as the international and local case studies give the modern manager a toolkit to manage in this complex world. Finally, the book is an easy read and provides invaluable guidance to leaders as they ponder and apply the knowledge to their organisations.
This is an illuminating and practical book for all leaders and managers of the 21st Century. There are lots of practical examples that leaders can 'borrow' for their respective organisations. Every chapter has been carefully crafted to highlight the key points on how to effectively manage people, culture and data to drive organisational success for today and tomorrow. This is a must read for all. -- Dr Philip C. Zerrillo ― Professor of Marketing at J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and Thammasat University, Thailand
The post-pandemic world has created a new normal. Together with digital transformation, they have transformed organisations and the workplace. All the sudden, we see employees working from home. This book considers some of the broader implications of workplace environment due to digitalisation and the pandemic. The authors offer interesting insights into three building blocks of organisations' culture, people, and data to future proof their businesses. As culture is an immutable source of human action, the four case studies draw upon the best practices from top employers in the world to creating a people-centric and data-driven culture to drive organisational performance. Every reader will learn something from this book. -- Dr Kiat Seng Yeo ― Associate Provost & Professor, Singapore University of Technology and Design
Two words describe Managing People, Culture and Data in the Modern Organisation - expansive and ambitious. Through curated research and lived experiences, Jovina and Jaclyn bring to live the key themes of a disrupted/disrupting world of work and organisations and what it would take to navigate this modern era and not get 'smashed on the rocks'.
While the title suggest that the book appeals to HR practitioners, this is far from its intent and content. With increasing digitalisation and data-lisation, the underlying fabric of the modern economy is information and knowledge management, and this hinges to a large extent on the role that humans play in it. We each have a personal stake in this endeavour - as employers, employees, leaders, managers or supervisors - and this book highlights everyone's concerns.
Each chapter of the book ends with an implications section which is particularly useful. It reflects the authors attempt to establish meaningful guard-rails for the modernisation of organisations and the work-lives of their employees, and provides a jump-pad to deeper and necessary conversations for all stakeholders.
This new book by Jovina Ang and Jaclyn Lee makes it clear that all HR professionals must be fluent not just in Culture and People, but also in Data, if the function is to be effective at improving individual performance, enhancing employee experience, and helping to achieve business goals.
There is no shortage of data for HR professionals. From recruitment data to promotions, productivity, absenteeism, timesheets, expenses, and retention metrics, data that can be used to craft better workforce strategies is being created every day. Yet many HR leaders struggle to realise the power of people analytics, choosing instead to rely on instinct and experience. If HR really wants to be a strategic business partner, it needs to speak with data and this book explains how to get there from here.
Readers of this book will want to become more analytical to keep pace with the new world order and be an integral part of a more data-driven, yet human-grounded, future of the HR profession.
I highly recommend the business and HR communities to read this relevant and practical book using the critical levers of culture, people, and data to architect the modern organisation. I love the insider peeks into how OCBC has transformed its organization using these effective strategies. Given the current chaos and complexities wrought by COVID-19, it is timely that progressive organisations consider a new playbook to augment their future. -- Carmen Wee ― Board Member, Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX)
This is written like a practical playbook linking the art and science of people and organisational development; the case studies help to put concepts into practice. Will be a good read for HR professionals wanting to know where to start their transformation journey in a COVID-19 impacted workplace. -- Christophane Foo ― Chief Human Capital Officer, Enterprise Singapore
Whilst technology is profoundly changing today's workplaces, what will differentiate tomorrow's leading organisations from the competition will be their organisational culture and people. Intelligent use of data will support this. This book is a must-read for leaders whose organisations are starting their HR data analytics journey -- Karen Loon ― Non-Executive Director of various for-profit and not-for-profit boards and former PwC Singapore partner
