Ardern reminds Aucklanders to stick to gathering rules after North Shore party

October 18, 2021

The Prime Minister urged people to stick to the rules, regardless of the situation people were in.

Jacinda Ardern is reminding Aucklanders that indoor gatherings aren’t permitted under Alert Level 3, following a huge house party at the weekend.

Police have launched an investigation into the house party which happened in Auckland’s Redvale on Saturday night, after it ended up going viral on social media.

During a media conference Monday afternoon the Prime Minister deemed the event as a “blatant breach of rules”, and asked Aucklanders to continue following Level 3 guidelines.

“Indoor gatherings, parties and social catch-ups, they're not part of Level 3. And it's one of the things we cannot afford to let slip.

“I have not seen the footage, I have had it described to me. That is enough. Clearly it was a blatant breach of the rules, clearly.”

Ardern reminded Aucklanders of the risks indoor gatherings posed during the Delta outbreak.

“We’re seeing that households mixing with others indoors at a larger scale is one of the contributing factors to the outbreak,” she said.

“For us it’s about continuing to highlight where we know restrictions will make a difference. Please stick with them, we don't just make them up.”

She also reminded Aucklanders that the virus isn’t only in certain parts of the region.

“Some people think that this is an outbreak in certain parts of Auckland and that is simply not true. Basically any suburb you can name we have a person or a household that’s been affected.

The Director-General of Health says it is a small minority of people breaking Covid-19 restrictions.

“No one should say or think that they can act differently just because they’re in a particular part of Auckland, that will not be the case.”

Ardern announced Monday that Auckland would remain at Alert Level 3 for another two weeks with the same restrictions in place.

Waikato also remains at Level 3 until Friday while Northland will move to Level 2 at 11:59pm Tuesday.
