Dr Ashley Bloomfield busts out dance moves at Porirua vaccination event

October 17, 2021

Communities around New Zealand provided plenty of colour and vibrancy during yesterday’s Super Shot Saturday vaccination drive.

It wasn't just the grass roots having fun, however, with the man leading NZ's fight against Covid-19, Dr Ashley Bloomfield, showing he was prepared to have a good time like everyone else.

He was filmed by Labour MP Barbara Edmonds dancing to Roimata in Cannons Creek, not letting a large crowd and cameras put him off his moves.

Video of his dancing has sent the internet into meltdown, with thousands of people showing their admiration for his efforts.

"So cool, he's enjoying the day, the music the vibe, must be a moment to let the pressure drift away for a little while. So pleased he's one of our protectors," Francis Panton wrote on Twitter.

"Dancing now part of Public Health training syllabus," said Sonz.

"Okay but Bloomfield's got some moves on him," write Tily.

Just under 130,000 vaccine doses were administered yesterday, nearly 40,000 of them first doses.

Final figures will be released later today by the Ministry of Health.
