Seymour credits stability for improved ACT fortunes

October 10, 2021

Party leader David Seymour on ACT reaching 25 years in Parliament.

After 25 often turbulent years in parliament, ACT leader David Seymour says the party’s record high polling is the result of stability and focus.

Over the years the party has had six parliamentary leaders, along with a succession of MPs who made headlines for the wrong reasons.

However, Seymour is now placing 2nd on 1News Colmar-Brunton polls for preferred PM, and the party got 14 per cent in the most recent survey.

"The last few years have been a period of stability, and it has allowed us to focus on our core business, which is representation," Seymour told Q+A.

ACT’s leader is a big winner in the latest 1News Colmar Brunton Poll.

The Epsom MP, who took ACT from a one-man band in 2014 to a caucus of 10 in 2020, believes voters are responding to the party listening to them.

"Rather than the politicians and their positions and the drama, we’ve just focused on saying here’s where New Zealand could be."
