Bihar announces 16-day lockdown: What is allowed, what is not

There will be a total lockdown in Bihar from July 16-31 to contain the spread of Covid-19, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi annouced on Tuesday. Modi said the 16-day lockdown will remain in force at all municipal, district, sub divisional and block headquarters levels. The move comes close on the heels of recent spike in positive cases in the state.

NEW DELHI: There will be a total lockdown in Bihar from July 16-31 to contain the spread of Covid-19, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi annouced on Tuesday.
The move comes close on the heels of recent spike in positive cases which had necessitated lockdowns, imposed by the local administrations, in several districts.
Modi said the 16-day lockdown will remain in force at all municipal, district, sub divisional and block headquarters levels.

What is closed during the lockdown:
* Commercial and private establishments
* All educational, training, research and coaching institutions
* All places of worship, no religious congeregation permitted too
* All social/political/sports/entertainment/academic/cultural functions/ gatherings, parks
What is open:
* Hospitals and all the related medical establishments
* Shops, including ration shops, dealing with food, groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy and milk booths, meat and fish

* Banks, insurance offices and ATMs
* Print and electronic media
* Hospitality services, including hotels, motels and lodges
* Sports complexes and stadium will open but no spectators allowed
* Restaurants and eateries with home delivery/take away services only.
* Industrial establishments with strict implementation of necessary precautions against Covid-19 as well as social distancing measures.
* In line with the Union government guidelines, air and train transport will remain functional
* Taxis, auto-rickshaws will be permitted across Bihar
* Private vehicles only for permitted activities as per the fresh guidelines.
* Transportation of goods
* All essential service providers will be allowed to commute from home to workplace.
Bihar recorded the worst single-day spike of 1,432 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, which pushed the total tally in the state to 18,853. Of the 1,432 cases, Patna reported the maximum number of patients at 162, followed by East Champaran at 124, Begusarai at 114, Nalanda at 107, Nawada at 92, Bhagalpur at 61, West Champaran at 58, Siwan at 55 and Muzaffarpur at 54.
