Q+A Review: Louisa Wall’s bombshell interview and David Seymour’s awful brilliance

Amazing show with Jack Tame again proving why he’s one of the best public broadcasters in the game.

His bombshell interview with Louisa Wall is painful in its highlighting of the pettiness of Tribal Labour while David Seymour proved he is one of the most Machiavellian political geniuses of our time.

Louisa Wall didnā€™t leave Labour, Labour left Louisa Wall.

The Left donā€™t reward talent, they reward unquestioning loyalty and subservience.

Louisa Wall was never subservient.

She came into politics with a strong Left wing belief system and a desire to do actual change.

That had her offside with Labour mandarins, MPs who think for themselves are considered dangerous on the Left.

The exact same dynamics have been at play over the amount of time it took for Labour to finally endorse Efeso Collins for Mayor.

The Left hates talent and rewards subservience, Wallā€™s refusal to shut up on issues that mattered meant she was always doomed to be pushed out until a better drone could be found to replace her with.

I think Labour will be very nervous at her valedictory speech.

Donā€™t hold back Louisa.

Bets on the PM has an important engagement elsewhere when Louisa Wall gives her speech.

As for David, his performance of why we needed a debate on co-governance is powerful, intelligent and if all the Left has between now and the 2023 election are screams of ‘Racist’, ACT are well on their way to a 15% vote win.

The activist Left will go into a spinning death feeding frenzy of outrage at the mere idea of debating co-governance while those who secretly burn crosses will have a field day under the fake veneer of ā€˜debateā€™.

This is going to be a cluster fuck of madness that Seymour will not be able to contain once he releases it.

The only hope we have is to actually step up the way Willie Jackson has and debate the issue in good faith because co-governance IS a unique strength that can build us, but we need the skills to debate without alienating which will play into the hands of extremists.

Comrades, I donā€™t think we are ready for this Jelly.

  1. Surely the sign of a true Machiavellian Genius is to not release forces that one can’t control once they are out of the box?
Maybe he is a mere opportunist with an ear closer to the zeitgeist than his contemporaries?

  2. Seymour should be praised for calling for debate and rather than being Machiavellian, I think he is genuine, whether people think he is right or wrong.

The Professor whose name I didnā€™t catch had me worried. She had no real concrete suggestions of what practically co-governance will mean (other than one suggestion that there could be an upper house). She couldnā€™t stop smiling and gushing about how great this will be. Arenā€™t people who write reports suppose to be a little more neutral? Frankly it felt like one of those adds for something thatā€™s being sold as the greatest thing since slice bread!

Btw thought it was interesting Louisa thought the reason she didnā€™t get into cabinet was because she supported David Cunliffe back in the day. However I did factor i. What Matt McCarten said on the podcast last week was due to her being difficultā€¦ā€¦.l

    • @ anker.
Oh, he’s genuine alright. He’s a genuine bullshit artist.
I fucking hate the way @ MB lauds his so called impressive wit. Fuck that! Don’t give the prick oxygen.
He’s a genuine sycophant to roger douglas, it’s easy to fool people with brain farts. Any magician could tell you that.

What the fuck are you reporting shit like that for? Jesus! ” As for David…” A little bit of sick mate.

    • an upper house sounds tempting BUT how would you select members?
from the same pool as our lackluster pollies
or select from the ‘great and the good’ who exactly are the great and the good and who gets to select them…ohhhh yea or lackluster pollies.

    • Mike Williams said that Louisa’s electoral committee did not want her except for one person she refers to. I would believe him rather than the dirty politics adherents. I see the tory times herald is being infiltrated by the dirty politics again. i like Louisa and Prue but she should just enjoy her new job and get on with it – shes only motivating the right wingers to salivate over each other.

  3. David Seymour is like car insurance; it’s annoying and you don’t think about it too much.. but when things get crazy you’re glad to have it.

NZ has been running ACT on a 3rd Party Policy – high chance we take out the Fully Insurance Policy next year, lol šŸ™‚

Seriously though, this is a slippery slope for ACT to climb. It’s great to watch an interview on co-governance I can follow. Would be better still if Mr Seymour was debated.

I’m open to being convinced/educated on these matters. What I’m not open to is waking up one morning to a bunch of crazies running the country, implementing policies they’ve crafted in the dark – that’s the concern and it’s a legitimate concern.

Can it be alleviated? Keep putting mahi into the hui I say.

    • Brilliant line

    • Agreed. If co-governance is what this country really wants – let’s talk about it and then vote on it. Why leave it up to the elites and the bureaucrats to decide for us.

  4. Wall is the first rat to leave the stinking and sinking ship although that is tough on Wall who for all intensive purposes didnā€™t put up with taking one for the team. Irrespective of politics you have to admire this. Sounds like poor manā€™s Gordon Brown took it personal when she didnā€™t support him.

As for Seymour and co-governance – just one of many grenades the government has to duck for 2023 – some will hit and they will be flat out getting 30% on election night.

What is becoming clear is labourā€™s best asset is also itā€™s achilles heal. Like Trump for the GOP outside of the base, Ardern is now too polarising and no amount of ā€œyou are all sexist pigs articles from Michelle Duff is going to put the genie in the bottle.

    Happy days

  5. Martyn Iā€™m from the right so should be laughing but arenā€™t. After watching the interview it was plain that wallā€™s lack of support for Ardern before she became PM resulted in a payback from Ardern. No cabinet, would rather Wall wasnā€™t in Caucus. We know this is politics but it shows the kindness of Ardern is fake. Am I surprised, no. Admittedly I was sucked in until the CGT backdown, and from then I understood Ardern to be a politician first and never a leader of change. Her election to power was a lie. As Martyn has pointed out Seymour is brilliant when promoting his policies but for me heā€™s what we donā€™t need. My dream would be a socially responsible National, only because I believe they understand the importance of the economy, whereas Labour sees the economy as full of people with too much money. I doubt whether my dream will come to pass the same as I believe that when the people are sick of Labours economic failures they will vote them out. Weā€™re all loserā€™s.

    • FFS It was Wall’s own LEC which sacked her, not Ardern. But Ardern and the Labour Party valued the work she did and gave her a safe list seat. Listen to MIke Williams who knows what really went on instead of media( real and bloggers).
Seymour has nothing but plagiarised one liners and one political simpleton philosphy and should be made to face real competition in the Epsom electorate. But the Tories love a two for the price of one even when it subverts democracy.

  6. As a long-time watcher of Parliament’s Question Time and what follows, I cannot recall the last time I’ve seen the PM in the House on Thursdays. She clearly has a permanent leave pass for Thursday, ‘important engagement’ or other matters. Nothing to see here….

    • Not sure what you’ve been watching for a long time – but it obviously hasn’t been question time – cos if you did -you’d know that it was John Key that initiated the no leader Thursday convention.

  7. Labour’s instincts are petty bourgeois because they are all about personal social climbing.
As for Louisa Wall, trans ideology is also a petty bourgeois issue that shits on gays and lesbians.
Seymore’s time has come as fascism is on the rise when nation trumps class.
Can’t wait to see the working class escape Labour’s dead hand and kick off the class war with Seymore and the declassed mob in the opposing trenches.

    • To clarify, are you suggesting that Act will represent the whole working class regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, etc. with Labour representing the woke middle class marxists?

    • Dave Brown ā€œ …trans ideology is also a petty bourgeois issue that shits on gays and lesbians. ā€œ It also discomforts and possible endangers boring heterosexuals. I am not the only person who is uneasy about my young granddaughter having to share lavatories with persons with penises. Even I dislike just seeing males emerging from cubicles zipping the front of their trousers and Iā€™m not unacquainted with anatomies.

  8. Indeed, Louisa Wall was never subservient. She herself stated, ā€œ Iā€™m pretty Bolshie. I never let anyone tell me Iā€™m not eligible for anything for anythingā€. This however didnā€™t stop her from trying to block othersā€™ eligibility to be themselves, infamously declaring in 2018 that ā€œ f*cking TERFSā€ should be banned from the Auckland Gay Parade. TERFS seems to have become a bullying tool used to silence comment and criticisms about gender ID issues from not just feminists, but from anybody at all, often branding them transphobic, rather than addressing the basic issues of concern, like shared spaces, and genetic advantages in competitive sports.

When the same-sex marriage bill was passed, Louisa stood blinking like a possum in the headlights, and declared that the most important thing in her life was same-sex persons being able to marry each other. I struggled to see how this helped the hungry barefoot homeless cis-gender children in her electorate. Next Louisa announced her desire to see a third gender option on the New Zealand passport. I struggled to see
how this would improve the quality of everyday life for folk having tough times in her electorate. I also thought it not the smartest passport option when visiting some other countries.

Her championing of safe spaces in the vicinity of abortion clinics was a spot-on cause which would have been dealt with years ago were politicians not so craven and gutless that they are intimidated by dirty old men in raincoats, religious nutters, and ghastly women utterly detached about the grim realities of othersā€™ lives and probably not caring about them either. Well done.

But there has to be more to politics than the sex and gender issues which are not only as socially divisive as I believe that they are intended to be, but are messing up innocent childrenā€™s lives, and can be a too-selective and partisan use of hard-earned tax payer dollars. If Wall is replaced by a more inclusive person, good.

    • Yes, Wall was right on board with cancel culture when she said there should be “no f**king TERFs at the Pride parade”

      https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/376894/louisa-wall-explains-terf-comment-suggests-police-wear-ceremonial-uniform

As for the same-sex marriage Bill, there were quite a few of us lesbian and gay people who never thought that was the most significant move to end homophobia. And many of us have never been into the idea of state sanctioned relationships. In the end, the moves on civil unions and opt out of de facto marriages after 2 years cohabitation (rather than opt in), was all about property: ie making it easier for the state and courts to allocate property when relationships break up or one on the partner’s dies.

      • I was part of the 80’s law reform and the immediate aftermath. I see nothing now that makes me proud. It all got turned into a commodity. šŸ™

      • Karolyn_IS. Yes. Iā€™m flummoxed that Wall has been appointed some sort of ambassador for LGBTQ issues throughout the Pacific region. Diplomacy does not seem be part of her skill set, nor tact or inclusiveness, and her seeming inability to understand differing points of view doesnā€™t augur well – it should have been enough to preclude her.

    • God comment Snow White.
There’s always two sides to a person.
Perhaps Wall could start her own party if she claims to be a maverick.

      • Bert one of Lā€™s problems may be a terrifying ignorance, or hubris, or both. She complained about the police ranks not being as LGBTQ inclusive as she, L, thought that they should be, but she has no way of knowing this.

Many gay people are ordinary normal sort of persons who choose to live their professional and personal lives privately, without declaiming ā€œ Iā€™m queer Iā€™m queer, ā€œ and theyā€™re often our kith and kin, and they are entitled to try to make their own life choices; it would surprise me if police Human Resources required or expected otherwise or if they have this sort of info available for Louisa et al.

Suicide stats for the trans community are awful, but blaming society or sections of society, also mightnā€™t bear close scrutiny when one looks into the practicalities or the reasons why some may try to change their gender.

In a Stuff interview Louisa said her parents recognised early that,ā€ I had a calling or a gift. ā€œ Dunno how healthy it is to believe that about oneself, but like Iā€™ve said before,
extremes of any ilk arenā€™t necessarily good news, and they can be counterproductive.

        • maybe gay people are now ‘normal’ because society accepted them(by whatever means) maybe we could try the same with trans folk….after all a pink haired mortgage holder is more likely to be on your side than mine SW

          • Gagarin Gay people have always been normal, gay people have always ā€˜beenā€™. I donā€™t know what you mean by saying ā€œ weā€ could try to accept trans folk. Speak for yourself. I have no problem with trans folk per se.

            • 40 yrs ago gay people were NOT accepted it took a ‘liberation movement’ and assimilation/gentrification/the pink pound, to make them so, so trans folk will also come to be accepted by society by the same process of ‘normalisation’ so the fake ‘outrage’ at the ‘threat to our civilisation’ will dissipate as is right and proper.

the quote you looking for is – maybe we could try the same with trans folkā€¦
don’t put your deliberate misquotes in my mouth.

if you think either this or my last quote are homophobic/transphobic you need professional help.

      • Bert ā€˜ Perhaps Wall could start her own partyā€™ ? The Mavericks. Perhaps co-governance with Brian Tamaki. They sorta look similar. Could be a match made in heaven.

      • FFS It was Wall’s own LEC which sacked her, not Ardern. But Ardern and the Labour Party valued the work she did and gave her a safe list seat. Listen to MIke Williams who knows what really went on instead of media( real and bloggers).

      • Bert. Yes but there are often more than two sides to a person. And sometimes two faces. Maybe Louisa could join forces with that other brilliant maverick, David Seymour.(sarc)

  9. Great interviews – both Seymour and Louisa come across as honest, articulate and courageous enough to stand by their convictions.

    • Well. You make a good point as many past members of the act party do have convictions a-about 12% of them I believe.

  10. Across the board wage cuts and US style health care is all that Seymour has to offer.

Get ready for the amont of homelessness to double if he gets anywhere near power.

    • Agreed millsy and scary as ,but you have to admit Seymour has Ardern by the short and curlies when it comes co-governance and 3 waters.

    • You mean tax cuts, haven’t seen any ACT policy that endorses wage cuts. Certainly the Nurses have been shafted by their union and the government. Ironically homeless and most issues Labour has as fixes have all become bigger problems

  11. What has Louisa Wall done for electorate during her 9 years so called representing them?
Answer: Nothing, her electorate has serious poverty, and all the related problems…and yet ..nothing from Ms Wall.

  12. You don’t really establish it. Either she was the arsehole or her electorate and the caucus were. Though the latter despised Cunliffe who I approved of. Remember Maggie Barry also.

  13. does she have an automatic right to a ministerial post, if she keeps a seat warm for long enough…and it could be construed that the blairite was just being straight for once.

  14. Louisa great for the rainbow community. Called women terfs, not helpful. I think that rainbow people forget you have to represent all people not just the LGBTQ. I hope she take the time to listen to women’s concerns in her new role and also lesbians who say theirs is a sexual orientation and they do not want relationship with women who were born men. It is a free world and this is their choice. They still need a strong community for same sex attracted women.

  15. I just watched Louisa Wall’s valedictory speech and it moved me to tears. David Seymour moves me to tears but in a different way.

  16. Why doesnt Louisa set up an independant media. With proper investigative journos. Not just a website spouting opinions and rehash of rehahses. Real investigation. Do something that will make a difference
