Jacinda Ardern’s approval rating slips further in new poll

A new political poll shows Jacinda Ardern’s approval ratings have dropped again, her lowest result since the ratings were first measured in October 2019.

A pool of eligible voters were asked if they approve or disapprove of the way Ardern is handling her job as prime minister, in a new 1News Kantar Public poll.

The shallow news headlines proclaim the end of Jacinda.

Really? The results actually show that despite the most difficult 2 years ever, Jacinda still enjoys 52% support for the job she’s doing while Luxon only gets 42% for doing nothing.

Jacinda’s support has taken a hit, but I suspect that has more to do with her awful followers and the proxification of political support via social media.

Jacinda isn’t losing support, her tribal feral defenders are doing that!

Social media algorithms have allowed for a toxicity of debate that is easily manipulated. A symphony of sweaty truths all screaming for attention and no one listening. Woke Identity Politics activists have seized the joy of having no gatekeepers to express how much they hate white men while alt right Incel Nazi’s have seized upon the joy of having no gatekeepers to express how much they hate everyone else.

Millennial woke culture sees macro violence coming from micro aggressions and piously police those micro aggressions with virtue signalling purity mantras.

Alt Right Incel Nazis see white persecution and create some bullshit replacement narrative to justify their powerlessness and feed that resentment online.

Most people are on social media and most people have a woke activist or Qanon fanatic in their social media feed screaming their feverish truths. While these activists certainly think they are speaking truth to power by endlessly calling people out for breaches of woke mantra or fake news anti Trump lies, to everyone else they are simply toxic.

People stop seeing the political party and only see the activist and in the end proxification means the activist becomes the proxy representation of the Party, and seeing as people have negative feelings towards the proxy, they turn from the Party.

Voters aren’t voting on policy, they are voting on who made them feel resentful on social media!

The political is the personal now means what hurts me personally becomes political.

Before social media activists could only face each other off at protests or through letters to the editor or talkback radio. There were constraints of interaction but with social media there are none and it turns out the freedom to insult and dehumanise others is more addictive than nicotine, alcohol and meth combined.

Wokeness has become a puritanical religion with none of the beauty – it’s not so much the personal virtue signal, we are all dicks at times, it’s the weaponization by algorithms that make it so dangerous and damaging.

The danger of identity politics is that it locks people intellectually into only defining the world through their skin colour, genitalia or sexual orientation – it also becomes toxically subjective and tribal where the only solidarity is with other people who share the skin colour or genitalia or sexual orientation- without shared truths and values, the 1% and their 9% enablers continue to divide the rest of us 90%.

Pure temple doctrine divides & alienates. Broadchurch universals build solidarity.

Twitter outrage is woke righteousness porn for the middle classes. A puritanical razoring where the self elected morality police publicly shame and cancel anyone for not using the language protocols of the conclave.

National are drawing support from rich white NZers who own more than one property, where Labour will regain support is when Omicron really hits us.

When tens of thousands are sick, Kiwis will see why Jacinda was so cautious and they will be grateful.

  1. When tens of thousands get a cold, they’re going to wonder what the hell the government is playing at with their mandates and MIQ and fear mongering causing extreme social stress and hardship. If you seriously think Jacinda’s popularity isn’t waning yet, you’ll soon notice it.

    • Can someone please communicate with the dead in NSW, 52 on Saturday alone from this disease and tell them it was just a cold?

  2. Those models of Covid infections across NZ are junk…so waiting for tens of thousands of sick Kiwis to thank her is not going to happen

    Jacinda IS losing support

Many Kiwis do not believe her, or her Government Covid fear campaign anymore

  3. Nice diatribe, but unfortunately I suspect only time will prove MB right or wrong.
In the mean time we’ll continue to be locked down and out. JA will continue to train the masses, she’s the only source of truth, and without her leadership tens of thousands will die.
Meanwhile the rest of the world gets on with living.
Only when her support continues to fall will she change direction.

    • Ás I’ve said before, sooner or later those that praised Jacinda for saving granny, are going to finally understand, well we saved granny, but granny died anyway and she lived the last of her days sad, lonely and disheartened because we were prevented from visiting her in her last days.

Jacinda had a choice but choose her route.

    • Mick, There appears to be a belief that in someway the ‘let it rip’ option provides some sort of return to the old normal, with life able to go on unaffected by the circulating virus – the facts are totally different.
      From the Wall Street Journal:
“At the end of October, the number of people in England who were on the waiting list for an elective procedure—one that is usually planned in advance and isn’t life threatening enough to require emergency attention, like a colonoscopy or knee surgery—hit six million.”
      https://www.wsj.com/articles/pandemics-hidden-toll-millions-in-u-k-await-treatment-but-not-for-covid-19-11640606405
This situation is not unique to UK and is happening worldwide with emergency medical treatment also being significantly affected, some hospitals unable at times to accept emergency cases due to lack of resource.
To me this totally disproves your claim “Meanwhile the rest of the world gets on with living.”

      • That’s probably quite correct Peter, I believe the UK had longer lockdowns than us in the first year. They; like many other countries have since figured out robbing Peter to pay Paul achieves little.
Oh let’s not forget the massive debt burden we’ve racked up for future generations.
I guess the upside is high inflation will devalue the debt.

        • Mick, you appear to be ignoring the massive debt burdens being incurred in the let-it-rip countries; they also have many companies going to the wall due to lack of customers, and supply chain failures due to lack of staff.

          • Far from it, normally I’m proud of NZ or NZer’s achieving on the global stage, but second highest in the world, is not one to be proud of.

      • But, but what a tremendous opportunity! This is the beginning of a Golden Age for privatized medicine; obviously Big Pharma Execs are already shiny red with the satisfaction of having cracked that most promising market segment…healthy people! Make no mistake, Seven-house-Luxon and the oddball assortment of neoliberal remnants will have their hearts set upon bringing us the marvelous efficiencies of a US style public/private health system/insurance industry to cope with post-covid bottlenecks. And even if that hasn’t dawned on them yet, they should be painted as such from now till election time.
Social media gives us the opportunity to make up Policy and ascribe it specifically to all political parties (purely Platonic of course!). Do you see the possibilities?

  4. It is Labour who has made those rich white people rich by allowing houses prices and rents to grow out of control . Those poor people who voted Labour in the misguide hope of some respite have been seriously screwed and those that thought they would have a plan to combat covid would still be waiting.
It is still early in the piece but everyday since taking leadership Luxon has made it easier to say vote National

  5. Luxon and his team of eggplants are in election campaign mode. Ardern isn’t.

There will always be negative news stories that opposition parties can cash in on but 20+ months out from election day, what the polls say now mean SFA.

I saw Luxon on the news tonight telling his disciples at their Queenstown getaway that they “care” about people doing it hard and now have to convince those people their concern is genuine. Haha. The reporter asked him what his policies were to help Kiwi’s doing it hard. Luxon replied he wasn’t ready to release any policies yet despite having had so much time on his hands. Hilarious. At least Ardern knows what charade Luxon is budgeting on.

Go forward 20 months. What will we have? Hopefully, Covid and things associated with it will be a memory. The housing situation will be in a much better dynamic. Can’t be any worse. Ardern will be in full campaign mode and her adoring army of young voters will still be wanting selfies with her. People who are not life members of the National Party will be seeing Luxon for exactly what he is. A God bothering anti abortion pale stale man who can be trusted as much as you can trust a $2 Shop Rolex Watch. A man who copped forty two thousand dollars profit every week for a year on just one of his investment properties and wasn’t even aware of that situation. The same man who is on record as being against the increase in the minimum wage. The same man that belongs to a divisive party that believes the only hard workers in NZ are those that vote for the National Party. Did I mention the reliance the National Party have on their considerable Chinese support?

Most Kiwis with a brain bigger than a sultana understand Labour can do a lot better but National would be an enormous leap backwards. National would justify brutally crushing NON National Party supporters again under the guise of Labour wrecking the economy and how they need to create another “Rock Star Economy” urgently.

The key (pardon the pun) to the next election will likely be the Green Party. They are invisible and irrelevant. If that situation remains the same, Labour could be in danger. James Shaw and Marama Davidson especially are chocolate teapots. Absolutely useless. Chloe Swarbrick needs to be in the top role asap for the Greens or you may as well vote for something akin to the McGillicuddy Serious Party.

  6. My worry here…

Is it worth it? Let me work it
I put my thang down, flip it and reverse it

    42% for doing nothing… that is fuckinterrible… seriously terrible…

As the front person for all her terrible creeps (you know who you are FFS) she is going to suffer the slings and arrows right out of there. Shit as it sounds all the promise is down the drain aside from some back room legal wranglings that will be hard to unwind.

    It’s not a glorious reign

  7. i do think many who voted for Jacinda do feel a bit betrayed. So much came out of the cupboard that was never seen before the election and there are people who just wont forgive her for it.

Dont know if you caught Luxon’s opening speech to the party faithful. I was shocked, he said all the right things and gave every appearance of him genuinely wanting them to change their ways. On the basis of that speech, I would say Jacinda should be very concerned. The question will be – Can we trust them or is it just playing politics until they get in and then return to their old ways

    • Well Nicola, here’s a bit of a reality check for you about your boss:

transcript…..straight from Luxon’s own weasel wording on One Network News 6.00pm, when he was asked at the Queenstown National Party Conference about solutions to TACKLE POVERTY
“Erm, erm, um, that’s the work we’ll get into , but, but, you know, you know, here’s,…. we have ideas, but I’m not gonna ready to talk about them publically!”
“Erm earned income tax credit, looking at tax thresholds! So that you are incenting (sic.) and encouraging people to go to work! Not saying that’s our policy”

Thanks to Thinking man above who wrote so accurately and eloquently:

[seeing] Luxon for exactly what he is. A God bothering anti abortion pale stale man who can be trusted as much as you can trust a $2 Shop Rolex Watch. A few too many wines in Queenstown, will often allow your fingers to hit the keyboard to defend <del)John Key Chris Luxon

  8. I read rnz. Yes, I do. Why? Habit. My eyes go there then the rest of me follows. I can’t help it. My eyeballs can’t help where they stray in the spur of the moment.
I read in/on RNZ that Adern’s doomed and then more doomeder by the day. The little monkeys that now grind the neoliberal capitalist organ down at rnz say so, so it therefore must be so. Or at least so they say.
It’s all so ghastly. The greedy inbred little right wing fleas are all hopping about. Nipping here and nipping there.
National and it’s hangers on don’t even have the good grace to admit Adern and her crew are doing a bloody good job. They can’t do it. And THAT, right there, is what defines National. Greedy selfish one dimensional meat packs in suits who’s only line of self promotion is to destroy, destroy, destroy. Was it said ” But they’re on our side Lord Luxon!? ” Luxon. ” Who gives a good God damn? Destroy, destroy, destroy!! ”
National have no grace, no class, style or panache. They’re the lifeless clay under the fertile soil of humanity where no worm will dare to go which is why I wonder why the MSM are so interested in going down there.
Did judith collins drown in her own malice? Because Luxon smells like her last fart before she went under.
After Adern, voting [in] National and Luxon with his cling-ons would be like voting for moldy white bread in a French Bakery.
    A word of warning…
Look to the left and right of you? See those guys? The ones you love? Would they be there if Luxon was [in] and had opened the borders to bolster the ‘economy’?

    • That’s a biggy No Biggy comparing Jacinda to the Taliban is just plain sick and warped. They do say that pandemics can bring the worst out in some people and we are seeing and hearing all the bullshit sad sop now on this site by the many Labour haters. But if you go out onto the streets and talk to the people you will see and hear most of them are very grateful we have managed to keep our death rates reasonably low so far. In the meantime our mates in Australia are battling with the same issues.

  9. Bernard Hickey gave a stat recently that 50 billion dollars went to the middle class during pandemic (business and personal wealth) while a thousandth of that went to NZ’s poor in the same period.

Another stat I heard recently is that kids are a thousand times less likely to get seriously ill from Covid than the elderly.

And the kicker stat I read is that the average age of those dying from Covid is GREATER than that of the average age for death by natural causes. Is Covid then the fountain of youth life extension that the billionaires have been praying for?

  10. I think they’ve done well considering – just have to let it go around slowly under a semblance of control and job done.

  11. The most ridiculous poll of all time – the salivating much mckay suggested Luxon is the most popular leader of a political party in the world. Even Mark Richardsons impromptu polls on the am show have more credibility than the Kantar polls. Granny Herald and ZB need to review their Pollsters and sign up Richardson. Who do you think is leading the dirty politics project now? We need to warn the new Granny Herald reporters not to get caught in the Tories dirty politics web.
