Get ready for the Free Speech vs Hate Speech war of 2021

1. My 2 cents worth.
   Rather than have a ‘hate speech law’, I have always thought a simple law change that you cannot post on a platform under a pseudonym but your actual name, you would find almost overnight the vitriol and ‘hate’ would reduce dramatically, after all posting something against an individual or organisation that is both hateful and or lies/liable is so much harder when its linked directly back to the named poster and not some nome de plume!
   Can the readers/posters here truely say some (not ALL) of their previous posts would not have been submitted if using your actual name?
   Its hard to be a bigot/hater when everyone knows its you.

   • Prejudice I believe is necessary to the extent that I want to choose a partner or friend of my choice, I prefer nice Maori girl, and I don’t want poor friends or family. If that makes me a rightwing bigot for refusing to date trans and financializing the poor I for one won’t be bad buzzed out of my preferences.

       I have socialized with the the LBGQ community since I was 16 years old. I am now well into my 60’s.I have two siblings who are queer.Yeah that’s right queer not gay. Why can’t we have public toilets for the Trans community. Male Female and Other( insert title here) and just get on with our lives. Edgler is right anti harassment laws need tweaking as do human rights laws. I can’t believe Jacinda is this thick.

       Anyhoo I wasnt meaning the attacks will stop, I was meaning the attackers would lessen if THEY has to use their actual names whilst ‘attacking’

           • A lot of times people using pseudonyms will try and fool people into thinking they’re smarter and wiser. The rest of the time people using pseudonyms con others into believing they’re wealthier than they are. It’s actually a failure of the listener who is so weak and kind hearted they have no option but to submit to liers. Clearly. People like you have a problem putting your name to your work. Fundamentally you lie.

   • My understanding is under NZ law one can use any name one likes to define oneself. Even multiple names.

2. Monotheism is hate speech… the contradictions start to multi[ply, and all that is solid melts into air…

3. Western democracy is truely fucked. The above is fiddling while Rome burns. We seem to be a a very similar trajectory as the Roman empire. (little) Aotearoa a remote outpost.

   Of course it’s all Trump’s fault and not the system as the left go all ‘Versailles’ on what was a very narrow victory and certainly not a mandate for change. This won’t end well and certainly isn’t over. The West or free world has devolved as a political entity over the last 20 years – Trump being a symptom and not a root cause

   All the while China moves all it’s pieces into place and waits. If covid was an intended move it may very well be checkmate.

   • I don’t believe corona was “intended” simply because China’s one dimensional one party government can only deal with what seems like a monthly outbreak of what ever nasty disease spread by a gigantic corrupt civil, local, regional and party unable or stuck in there corrupt ways to truely help the people. Instead it’s the party is muh authoritaaaaah.

     No I think China would have boomed even with out corona. Not simply because America is rotten but because that’s precisely what has to be done just to feed 1 billion people.

4. Does the vitriolic loathing left-wing wokists have for white people on Twitter count as hate speech? I think it does – if nothing else it is certainly extremely racist. I’ll be reporting every one of them once this law passes.

5. Trouble is that NZ is nominally a secular society, so that religion is less effective when one points to heaven while stealing the land – especially when it doesn’t pay tax. And since Maori had their gods that were turned into hybrid millennial resistance movements, the settlers religion gave way to its host – military force. Now in too late capitalist times of the post-modern – shades of Saint Max Stirner – we point inwards to our trans ‘souls’ for salvation while capitalism continues to alienate us from the land and our labour. As Marx pointed out alienation under capitalism reworked old religions, but advanced (like cancer) from that point to alienation from one’s work, from others (hell is other people) to alienation from oneself (madness and identity politics).

6. Every time the woke get busy helping the neoliberals into their narrow definitions of what is acceptable in law we become more of a Kafkaesque society. We don’t need hate laws, they don’t keep out the likes of Tarrant and criminals – aka implement real immigration policies and deport people of poor character immediately instead of encouraging them take up housing and residence here.

   Allowing people to freely say their views is more valuable to the authorities because then they can keep an eye on them if they are saying hate speech! Aka had Tarrants on-line hate messages been followed up and the gun club members concerns acted on, and police bothered to do a proper police check on his gun references, then CHCH might not have happened.

   The lefties are easily distracted to actually criminalise free speech, make society worse and drive criminals underground.

   We already have the laws. I don’t see John Key being criminalised when he calls the locals lazy and drugged out, isn’t that hate speech based on race, because if a politician called Asians lazy and drugged out then they would not have been able to get away with it. There is already a double standard in NZ.

7. Those on the right who refused to get rid of the blasphemy law left this for an incoming Labour government. They did so on the presumption that liberals would replace it with a hate speech law.

   They have long planned to then run an election to win back power as defenders of free speech – an irony as the established church (here Anglican and Catholic) will support the hate speech law that inludes protection for right wing American religion (even more right wing and reactionary than their own), Islam and Jews. Jews provide the anti-semitism hate speech angle and with coverage of Moslems gives it the multi-cultural veneer that liberals would just die for.

   The right will be advantaged by the favour to theism (next step faith based providers and term limit welfare of the Americans) in cultural management of the underclass, yet exploit reaction to suppression of free speech to win back the centre off Labour.

   It’s all very cynical, and liberals are likely to give them the win. The design is God to manage by religious identity (white race and their Christian heritage God) the underclass and mammon for the middle class property owner. Class based criticism will be called “Marxist opiate of the masses” hate speech.

8. You’re 100% on the money again Martyn. I’m rubbing my hands waiting for when this happens because it will unite a broad swathe of New Zealanders against this government – and yes another half dozen ACT MPs thrown into the bargain.
