During Virtual School, it is still vital that the joy of reading for pleasure is not forgotten. Although it may not always be possible to pick up a physical book, there are many different options from which you can choose to enjoy a good book! Thanks to Ms Susan and Mr Andy from our Early Years and Infants and Junior Campuses for providing these great opportunities below:

BIS Teachers Read stories

Teachers love sharing books and stories and there is a story telling live Meet every week across Early Years and Infants campus classes. Even if you're an older student, you might like to tune in and have a listen to an old classic being read to you. Curl up on the sofa, have a look at the pictures or close your eyes and just listen to the words.

Happy Listening!

Epic Books

This brilliant, free website is packed with great books aimed at different levels of reader. It is free to sign up using the link to the side, and then your children can access 1 book a day for free. It works across all platforms and is a truly great site. Happy reading!

BBC Stories for Children

A great site which is mostly aimed at our younger readers, but is still a great resource for anyone wishing to read along with a story teller. Someone reads the story in video form, and our students are able to follow the transcript of what is read. A great tool!

Keep in mind, some Internet providers might not allow this site.

Khan academy

Kids will love to learn!

This program engages kids in core subjects like early literacy, reading, writing, language, and math, while encouraging creativity and building social-emotional skills.

Five whimsical, charming characters—including narrator Kodi Bear—guide kids through activities and stories.

Original interactive activities, books, animated videos, games, and creative lessons captivate children’s attention.

Developed by experts

Khan Academy Kids was developed in collaboration with learning experts at Stanford and aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and Common Core Standards.

Described as 'joyful' and 'engaging'

Free Children's Stories

Like the BBC site above, Free Children's Stories offers readers the opportunity to read along with a storyteller. Unfortunately the storyteller's voice is very robotic or digital, it is still a great site with a range of books available. This is also good for younger readers, if you go back to the home page for the site and choice age group.

OpenLibrary.org

Another great resource, and to make it even better it is free! To access Open Library, click on the link here, or click on the image below. You will need to ask mum or dad to create a login for you, but once you have you can borrow some really incredible books such as 'Geronimo Stilton' and 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid'

National Geographic Kids:

This is an excellent website for finding out more about people, places and animals around the world. There are games, magazines, videos and much more on offer. You might even want to subscribe! Click on the link below to access.

Quick Links - Free stuff!

Check the YouTube Channel of one of BIS HCMC's favourite visiting authors, Adam Bushnell. He is having a chat each day and speaks about some of his favourite books. Pay special attention to between 2 and 4 minutes into Day Two's video, as several of our students are mentioned - well done Ben; 'eye ball popper' indeed!

Holiday Reading

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

I would like to remind you of, or introduce you to, our great eBook library at BIS. Students can read books online, anywhere and at any time, as long as they have internet connection, which is particularly useful in the school holidays.

·

The eBook library, gives everyone the opportunity to borrow and read books online through the Destiny Discover app, which can be downloaded from the app store. The eBooks are electronic books which students can use on their devices, i.e. laptops, tablets, iPads and phones, and can be accessed by using their regular school Wi-Fi login. The 423 titles offered have different genres and different levels of difficulty, which are suitable for all Junior school students and include fiction and non-fiction books.

Students can also access the website for the eBooks library from the Destiny Library website: https://library.bisvietnam.com/quest/servlet/presentquestform.do?site=101

Click the button ‘Follett Shelf’ which will direct you to the Destiny Library.

You can also use this link for downloading the app for laptops if you want the app installed onto your computer:
