Writing for the Public with Dr Simon Wang

About

The development of writing skills is at the core of becoming constructive members of the civil society with the abilities to join the conversation about important social issues. Dr. Simon Wang, a lecturer in English at the Language Centre, HKBU, has been a regular contributor of the South China Morning Post Letters column since 2013, addressing a wide range of social problems facing Hong Kong and the global society. More recently, he has started collaborating with HKBU students to write letters focusing on issues related to student affairs and scientific research.

This website showcases the writing of Dr. Simon Wang published in South China Morning Post as well as other media outlets such as Hong Kong Economic Journal 《信報財經新聞》. It invites colleagues and students at HKBU and beyond to join his efforts to write for the public and voice our opinions on social issues. Undergraduates at HKBU may also consider taking GCAP 3056 Taking a Stand Engaging in Public Discourse through Advanced Research and Writing to learn how to write for the public. A master level course Prosumer Critical Discourse Analysis is available for postgraduate students through the MALS programme. Please contact Dr. Wang by email (simonwang@hkbu.edu.hk) for questions and comments.
