About this app

This self-help wellbeing app is for Māori individuals and whānau to know what to do if they are concerned about someone’s mental or emotional wellbeing.
“He kokonga whare e kite, He kokonga ngākau e kore e kite.”
“The corners of a house can be seen, however we cannot see the depths of the heart.” It is hard to know what someone else is thinking or going through mentally and emotionally. Some of us find it difficult to move through our own emotions when things are hard. This Manaaki Ora app is designed to provide guidance and tips on how to self-help, or how to support others who might be going through hard times or distress.
Explore this app to find creative ways to build and maintain wellbeing from culturally centred activities. Activities within the app include:
Helping whānau identify their feelings and when they are starting to feel overwhelmed.
Simple tools and ideas for self-help or supporting others.
How and where to get support for yourself or others.
Tips on how to support others.
Simple, innovative activities to build wellbeing and resilience.
A culturally centred approach for Māori. Models of practice incorporated into this app include Te Whare Tapa Whā & Manaaki Tangata.
This tool was developed by Te Au: The Centre for Māori Suicide Prevention.
Te Au is a working group within Te Rau Ora (Māori Health & Wellbeing).
All personal information entered into this app is for the users experience only and will remain within this device only. Te Au & Te Rau Ora do not have access to any personal information that you may enter into this app on your device.
*Please note, this is not a clinical tool. This app has been designed to provide tips and guidance for wellbeing. If you feel anyone is in immediate danger, seek help immediately or dial 111 (in NZ).

Incredible resource for all people. Easy to use and really beautifully layed out. As a neuro diverse person, this was a really easy to follow app for any spoon/energy level. This is great for service users & providers and is a gently mindful exercise that just helps you check in. Lovely.
