What is pet care Insurance?

This is a 3-in-1 insurance plan that provides medical reimbursement, liability insurance and personal accident insurance.

Pet owners can choose from the two available insurance plans (i.e. regular and express) depending on their desired amount of coverage, with insurance premium of as low as Php 1,815.00 per year.

Medical reimbursement benefit covers the following:

  • Lifetime limit for treatment or diagnostics for cruciate ligament injuries  
  • Burial Assistance (due from euthanasia)  
  • Laboratory tests  
  • X-ray ultrasound, MRI, CT Scan  
  • Surgery  
  • Hospitalization  
  • Medication (prescribed by a veterinarian)  
  • Extractions of permanent broken teeth due to an accident  
  • Euthanasia  
  • Costs of Veterinarian professional fees or charges

Medical reimbursement

MGS Insurance will reimburse any payment made by the pet owner for expenses that are medically necessary to treat or diagnose the insured pet arising from an accident or illness.

Liability insurance

We will pay for actual or any damages and costs (up to Php 100,000.00) incurred for any legal liabilities to third party due to the actions of the insured pet while the pet is under the insured’s care.

Protects the pet owner     (up to Php 50,000.00) in   the event of loss of life, disablement and dismemberment as a direct result of an unforeseen and violent event arising within the policy period.

burial assistance benefit

(Due to Euthanasia only)

The Pet owner will receive a lump sum benefit amounting to Php 10,000.00 when the pet was euthanized.

Important Note: Some of the requirements are optional but shall be required for submission in case of Claim.

GUIDELINES

APPLICATION FOR THE FOLLOWING DOGS Is ACCEPTED:

  1. Dogs aged six (6) months to eight (8) years old.
  2. Vaccinated dogs (schedule of vaccinations must be based on the prescribed schedule of Philippine Animal Hospital Association (PAHA).
  3. Dogs with yearly physical examination and have necessary check-ups and treatments recommended by a veterinarian to prevent illness/injury.
Note: Pedigreed Dogs are preferred. However, non-pedigreed dogs may be accommodated subject to satisfactory review and acceptance by the company.

THE FOLLOWING DOGS SHALL NOT BE ACCEPTED:

  1. Stunt Dogs
  2. Dogs for Police, Military or Security Services
  3. Dogs raised and used for fighting
  4. Dogs raised and used for sports

CLAIM REQUIREMENTS:

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED BY THE PET OWNER ARE AS FOLLOWs:

General Requirements:

  • Government issued I.D./Company or School I.D. showing the photo, complete home address, and signature of the pet owner
  • Pedigree Certificate and/or RFID or microchip scanned serial number
  • Pet Photo
  • Written Incident Report

For Accident-Related Claims:

  • Pet Baby Book/Veterinarian’s Records, and Certification from the attending Veterinarian on the illness or nature of treatment undertaken, and health condition of the pet
  • Prescription of the Veterinarian for Medical Treatment
  • Original Receipts of Medical Treatment on the pet
  • Police Report or Affidavit of how the accident happened
     

For Sickness/Illness Claims:

  • Pet Baby Book/Veterinarian’s Records, and Certification from the attending Veterinarian on the illness or nature of treatment undertaken, and health condition of the pet
  • Prescription of the Veterinarian for Medical Treatment
  • Original Receipts of Medical Treatment and Medication of the pet.

STANDARD DEDUCTIBLES:

The deductible is the portion of the cost that a pet owner is responsible for before reimbursement starts.

Here are the standard deductibles:

  • Medical Reimbursement – Php 5,000.00 each and every loss
  • Burial Assistance Benefit – No applicable deductible
  • Owners Liability – No applicable deductible for Third Party Bodily Injury; 5% of loss amount, minimum of Php 5,000.00, each and every loss with respect to Third Party Property Damage.

additional condition: thirty (30) days waiting period

Medical Reimbursement coverage of the policy shall not cover any injury, sickness or illness and any of its resulting complications contracted by the Insured Pet within thirty (30) days from the effectivity of the policy coverage. During such time, any expenses necessarily incurred to relieve of pet of any injury, sickness or illness shall not be reimbursable under the policy, unless the pet has been covered under this policy for twelve (12) consecutive months.

Does Pet Care Insurance cover spaying or neutering?

No. Pet Care Insurance does not cover the costs incurred to spay or neuter the Insured Pet, regardless of the reason.

Does Pet Care Insurance also apply to cats?

No. Pet Care Insurance only covers pet dogs at the moment.

Can I file a claim for medical reimbursement right after the policy issuance?

No. Medical Reimbursement coverage of the policy shall not cover any injury, sickness or illness and any of its resulting complications contracted by the Insured Pet within thirty (30) days from the effectivity of the policy coverage. During such time, any expenses incurred to relieve the Pet of any injury, sickness or illness shall not be reimbursable under the policy unless the Pet has been covered for twelve (12) consecutive months.

Is the Pet Care Insurance applicable to dogs with pre-existing conditions?

Yes, but the approval of the application will be subject to the underwriter’s review and consideration.

Also, please be informed that no benefit under the policy shall be paid for any injury, illness or condition that occurred or showed clinical signs before the Insured Pet’s Coverage started.

Does Pet Care Insurance cover dental procedures?

Only those medically necessary extractions of permanent broken teeth due to an accident are covered. Any conditions related to teeth, including but not limited to gingivitis, periodontal disease, root canals, caps and crowns, vital pulpotomies, deciduous teeth, and diseased or abscessed teeth are not covered.

Does Pet Care Insurance cover any injury regardless of the reason?

No, the policy only covers accident-related injuries. It does not cover injury and loss of life of the Insured Pet which resulted from intentionally inflicted injury by the pet owner or any of the owner’s family members, whether sane or insane.

Does Pet Care Insurance cover the death of the Insured Pet?

The policy only covers death if it is due to Euthanasia (when advised by the veterinarian to alleviate suffering). Death due to pregnancy or birth-related causes is not covered. The killing of the Insured Pet through any means other than Euthanasia is also not covered.
