Birmingham City Council develop communication campaign to further support disadvantaged communities
Birmingham City Council’s Public Health Division have successfully tendered for additional community support services to ensure COVID-19 and Test and Trace messages are shared widely with the city.
Public Health experts within the council have partnered with these organisations to discover the best methods of reaching the various communities and understanding how they have been affected by COVID-19. New tenders include:
- Age UK
- Amber
- Bahu Trust
- Birmingham Disability Resource Centre
- Hawkmoth
- Insight Now
- SRI (Shree Hindu Community)
- Supreme Linguistic Services
- West Midlands Faith in Action
Dr Justin Varney, Director of Public Health for Birmingham City Council, said “Birmingham is a hugely diverse city and we recognise there are specific concerns or issues facing certain communities.
“Local intelligence suggests that some communities may feel isolated or are not able to follow the correct guidance so it important we have a strong connection to these communities in which we can dispel fake news and push content within their own languages.”
A spokesperson for West Midlands Faith In Action said “West Midlands Faith in Action is working with Birmingham City Council and local Black led/ Black majority churches within Birmingham to improve and share current factual information that will help the BAME community, especially the Black, African and Caribbean faith community navigate safely within the evolving national and local government restrictions .
Jointly, we can combat fake news with factual and relevant information and resources that will help to avoid or expose our family, friends, neighbours and church community from the spread of COVID-19 across Birmingham.
