What is a Spatial Plan?

The Teviot Valley Spatial Plan outlines an agreed vision and direction for the Teviot Valley over the next 30 years and beyond. Spatial Plans look to understand how growth and development can be sustainably managed, but also to protect what makes this place special in the face of future change.

As part of the Teviot Valley Spatial Planning Project, four draft maps have been developed covering Roxburgh, Lake Roxburgh Village, Millers Flat and Ettrick. These have been drafted following a series of community workshops and with specialist input. The maps show how each location can grow and develop in the future, taking into account changes to zoning, community facilities, open spaces and infrastructure requirements.

The draft spatial plan maps for each settlement can be viewed here.

What has happened so far?

A timeline of what has happened so far in this process and future steps are outlined in 'The Process' on the right-hand side of this page or below if you are reading this on a mobile phone.

Has this been done before?

No, not in the Teviot Valley. However, Council recently completed a spatial planning process for the Vincent area – this is a good example of what we’re looking to develop for the Teviot Valley.

How can you get involved?

We'd love you to join us on the journey. Now is your opportunity to get involved.

Please read the Let's Talk - Teviot Valley Spatial Plan booklet and review the draft spatial plan maps that have been developed for each community. Do you think they look right? Are there additional things that should be considered?

Drop-in dates and times:

Please complete the survey below by Sunday, 5 November to let us know what you think.

Your feedback will help us to refine and improve our thinking so that together we can create the best possible outcome for the Teviot Valley's future.

We’re aiming to get this in front of as many people as possible in the community, so please share with your family, friends, and colleagues. The Let's Talk - Teviot Valley Spatial Plan booklet will also be available in hard copy at a range of community facilities and popular places such as the Roxburgh Service Centre, local cafes and shops. The decisions made through this process will impact how your community grows.
