PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Tuesday held its first convention with functionaries and workers of its constituent parties, which passed a resolution seeking restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional position as on August 4, 2019.

“Articles 370, 35-A and full statehood has been our constitutional position and the constitution of J&K, which was abolished unconstitutionally, be restored. This is our basic charter and demand,” spokesperson for PAGD and senior CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said after the meeting.

In the run-up to the meeting, the administration had sought to dissuade the PAGD from holding the event, citing Covid measures. In a letter to the PAGD spokesperson, the Executive Magistrate stated that as of August 22, the UT’s executive committee, “has put restrictions on public gatherings”.

Referring to this, Tarigami said, “It seems the conduct of the meeting is not acceptable to the administration…We have followed Covid protocols to the best extent. The administration has tried to cause hindrances to our small meeting as well.”

On July 5, days after the all-party meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PAGD in a joint statement had said that it was “disappointed” with the meeting’s outcome.
