LoRa on our GEO sat ?

Not ham radio related, but yet...
Should we have LoRa (Long Range) on a ham GEO satellite ?
This would add IOT (Internet of Things) capability to the effort.
Might make for easier funding due to an order of magnitude larger customer base...

I don't really see the so-what.  If I correctly followed the article and diagram, LoRa uses a gateway station to access the satellite link; they have no (nor should they IMO) direct access to uplinks.   In this respect, they seem similar in concept as other proposed uses of a rented bent pipe; all require access to an authorized central uplink station; critical to the concept will be resource management; in this case managing access to the uplink node(s) so large numbers of low-traffic devices don't overwhelm the system with total volume of data, let alone duplication of the same information.  OtherNet/OuterNet has already demonstrated the utility and limitations of broadcast downlinks to local nodes and networks.

GEO, no

LEO, yes

Project is already started, seems promising

I was dubious about LoRa from LEO, but I think it can work.

Seems like it is working on Othernet, using the SES-2 GEO sat.
Ku band, 12 Ghz downlink.
Dedicated kit receiver called Dreamcatcher for $60.
