Space Truckin’ Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Well, we had a lot of luck on Venus
We always had a ball on Mars
We meet with all the groovy people
We rocked the Milky Way so far

[Pre-Chorus]
We danced around with Borealis
We're space truckin' 'round the stars

[Chorus]
Come on, come on, come on
Let's go space truckin'
Come on, come on, come on
Space truckin'

[Verse 2]
Remember when we did the moonshot
And Pony Trekker led the way?
We moved through the Canaveral moonstop
And everynaut would dance and sway

[Pre-Chorus]
Got music in our solar system
We're space truckin' 'round the stars
[Chorus]
Come on, come on, come on
Let's go space truckin'
Come on, come on, come on
Space truckin'

[Verse 3]
The fireball that we rode was moving
But now we've got a new machine

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the freaks said
"Man this cat can really swing"
They got music in the solar system
They rocked around the Milky Way
They danced around with Borealis
We're space truckin' every day

[Chorus]
Come on, come on, come on
Let's go space truckin'
Come on, come on, come on
Space truckin'

[Guitar Solo]

[Drum Solo]
[Chorus]
Come on, come on, come on
Let's go space truckin'
Come on, come on, come on
Space truckin'

[Outro]
Yeah, yeah, yeah, space truckin'
Yeah, yeah, yeah, space truckin'
Yeah, yeah, yeah, space truckin'
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, space truckin'
Yeah, yeah, yeah, space truckin'

Genius Annotation

“Space Truckin'” is the final song on most releases of Machine Head. The concept of the song came about when Ritchie Blackmore proposed the idea of combining concepts of space travel with late 1960’s comic Keep On Truckin'.

When performed live, this song would often turn into very extended jams, with the original recording of the song on the album only being four and a half minutes in length, these jams would often reach upwards of 15 minutes, with the version recorded for Made in Japan being nearly 20 minutes long.

Perhaps the most notable live performance of “Space Truckin'” came from Deep Purple’s performance at the 1974 California Jam. Due to miscommunication with concert organizers, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore had become extremely upset. During the extended jam, Blackmore destroyed multiple guitars, smashed a camera with a guitar, and had his guitar amp doused in gasoline and lit on fire, causing it to explode.

What did Deep Purple say about "Space Truckin'"?
Genius Answer

The 2 most popular things in 1971 were this sticker that had a guy with a big foot sticking out that said Keep On Truckin', and space travel. Ritchie came to me one day and said, “What if I did a song combining the two?” I said, “Yeah, sure”. He said, “You don’t think it’s too corny?” I said, “No, I don’t. You should go for it”.
