Members of the public have an important role to play in protecting our natural resources. Each year, we receive approximately 5,000 calls reporting incidents with potential to harm the quality of our air, land or water.

We provide a 24-hour point of contact for reporting environmental incidents to ensure a suitable response occurs.

All calls received are researched and evaluated to assess the potential environmental effects. Due to the high volume of reports, we respond to the most serious incidents first.

Incidents involving contaminants in waterways and unauthorised discharges to land or air should be notified to Environment Canterbury immediately by calling us on 0800 765 588 (24 hours). To help us respond, please ensure you can provide an accurate location, the times and dates the incident was witnessed, and a full description of the activity, including photos or video if available.

Snap Send Solve app

Snap Send Solve is a smartphone app to help make reporting incidents easy. It uses your phone's location to provide an accurate address and can capture photos to help us to identify and investigate the issue.
