The Government is hoping for a huge turnout at vaccination clinics around the country on Super Saturday, that could see vaccination numbers jump markedly in some regions.

Around 550 vaccination events will be happening around New Zealand on Saturday, with a few more on Sunday.

The Ministry of Health is hoping to see several regions hit first dose milestones over the weekend.

Currently Dunedin City are sitting on 89 per cent for first doses, Central Otago and Marlborough Districts are on 86 per cent, and Hamilton, Christchurch, Upper Hutt and South Wairarapa District are all on 85 per cent.

Invercargill, Hastings, Central Hawke’s Bay and New Plymouth districts are all sitting on 79 per cent of people for their first dose, all aiming to pass that 80 per cent milestone.

Far North, Ruapehu, Whakatāne, Ōpōtiki and Kawerau districts all have their sights set on passing that 70 per cent first dose milestone.

Over 600,000 doses have been administered to Māori. 360,000 of those are first doses, equating to 63 per cent of the total Māori population.

Currently, 69 per cent of all Māori Aucklanders have had their first dose, with only 28,000 more needed to reach the 90 per cent milestone.

We’ve also got some tight competition, with Northland, Hawke’s Bay, Tairāwhiti, Whanganui, Taranaki all racing to see who can hit the 60 per cent Māori first dose milestone.

More than 223,000 or 78 per cent of Pacific people have had their first dose, hoping to reach 80 per cent this Super Saturday.

Since Thursday, 3,918 Pacific People have had a vaccination.

Currently the Fijian community are leading the way for first dose vaccinations, with Samoa and Tonga close behind. But with Super Saturday tomorrow, it’s anyone’s game.

If you’re eligible and haven’t had your free Covid-19 vaccine yet check with your local doctor, visit BookMyVaccine.nz to make a booking, or find your nearest walk-in vaccination centre.
