Green MP Julie Anne Genter is making headlines around the world after cycling to the hospital while in labour for the second time.
Genter posted the news about giving birth to her second child, a daughter, on Facebook on Sunday, where she shared a picture of her ride to the hospital.
"Big news! At 3:04am this morning [Sunday], we welcomed the newest member of our family.
"I genuinely wasn't planning to cycle in labour, but it did end up happening.
"My contractions weren't that bad when we left at 2am to go to the hospital - though they were 2-3 min apart and picking up in intensity by the time we arrived 10 minutes later. (I'm smiling in the car park right after one)."
Genter's choice of transport has made headlines around the world with several news outlets covering the story.
The Guardian wrote an article headlined: "Ride on, baby: NZ politician cycles to hospital to give birth – for the second time".
It went on to note New Zealand has a reputation for down-to-earth politicians.
"The island nation of 5 million has a reputation for down-to-earth politicians. Prime minister Jacinda Ardern famously took maternity leave while in office and brought her three-month-old to a UN meeting as she was still breastfeeding," it read.
Daily Beast also covered Genter's trip in an article headlined: "New Zealand Politician Bikes to Hospital in Full Labor for the Second Time".

It's not the first time Genter's biked to the hospital while in labour, she did the same thing in 2018 when she gave birth to her son Joaquin.
