MEDIAWATCH: Can Shaneel Lal really claim people are critical because of topless photos?

Ummmm.

Look.

I don’t want to keep bringing up Shaneel Lal because some of the shit said about Lal is just ugly beyond belief and has a toxicity to it that damages the person saying it as well as the person they are aiming it at.

Fuck feeding that.

H-O-W-E-V-E-R

When Lal goes out of their way in their NZ Herald weekly column to make claims that are gasp inducing and eye rolling at the same time, you kinda need to counter it.

In their latest column, which was ostensibly an attack on conservative standards, they frame all criticism of themselves winning Young New Zealander of the Year as politically motivated and evil…

Since winning Young New Zealander of the Year a month ago, Terfs, in other words, self-proclaimed women’s rights activists with the support of right-wingers, have reposted on social media shirtless selfies which I took when I was 18 and held that as an example of why I am not a good role model for young people.

….well, hold on a wee second there.

Now, I’m sure there are some fuckwits out there circulating these images and making the allegation that Shaneel isn’t a good role model for young people.

I’m sure there are, and they are wrong.

Shaneel is a questionable choice for Young NZer of the Year because of the pretty extreme abuse they’ve meted out on their own social media feed…

…so it’s that bewildering level of open abuse PLUS Shaneel leading an angry mob to literally, metaphorically, metaphysically and figuratively chase a women from the town square and call that ‘Pure Trans Joy’!

THAT’S why the vast, vast, vast, vast, vast, vast, vast, vast, vast, vast majority of Kiwis were critical and questioning of Shaneel, and that is totally legitimate.

For those holding up Lal’s topless photos and dancing videos as some type of evidence of Lal’s worthiness for winning, you don’t understand the criteria or how stupid you sound.

I think Lal may be the only political columnist in NZ who will actually drive voters away from their preferred political preferences.

Shaneel is the Anti-King Midas of political columnists.

Can anyone ask them to maybe hold off until after the election from writing again? Because the more they write, the less chance the Left has of winning the election.

      • Bob the first: “Yes a dreadful person.”

He’s a piece of work, isn’t he? It seems to me that he’s got what my late mother used to refer to as “an inferiority complex”. Freudian pop psychology from a lot of years ago.

Were he completely sure of himself, he wouldn’t need to resort to the insults and ad homs which he uses so liberally. Not would he incite violence, as he did before the Posie Parker rally.

He’s an immigrant, I believe. Definitely not the sort we want here.

    • Thanks nukefacts. Of course our gelded MSM won’t touch stories like this. And any number of woke apologists on this site will say “nothing to see here”.

I work in a STEM department in tertiary education. STEM, not grievance studies. It’s an increasingly difficult environment – I feel like I’m in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. It’s bewildering to see scientists so given over to ideology, their critical faculties apparently shut down.

I’ve dived back into this book I bought several years ago but never finished: https://www.fishpond.co.nz/Books/How-to-Have-Impossible-Conversations-Boghossian-Peter-Lindsay-James/9780738285320

A valuable guide to survival in the 21st century.

      • pope not a new phenomenon look at the popularity of eugenics in the past with both scientists and the same do-gooder middle class demographic, it’s an enlightening comparison as a case study.
and yes scientists are prone to fads and fashions just like japanese schoolgirls.

            • What could be your motivation for saying “Not a new phenomenon” and throwing the dead cat of eugenics on the table? You fear the right stands to gain from any publicity given to the ongoing ideological makeover of our educational institutions? An understandable fear, though the Nats seem reluctant to fight culture wars. We are in an ugly situation in this country – an ACT/Nats government will probably mean some harsh economic policies, but we cannot afford another 3 years of the current wokeist government. And although Seymour has plentyof bad ideas, his plan to scrap the 5 demographic ministries isn’t one of them. Ditto for his intention to clean woke ideology out of education.

              • because pope, the popularity of eugenics was asimilar cultural process, it’s not the policy but the process that’s being repeated…but you are of course aware of that

  1. It’s a world wide western phenomenon of companies (and media) embracing the 0.01% of the population with a smug ‘look how inclusive we are’, but every company that has done this has lost revenue (Budweiser, Disney to name 2 huge companies)
To be honest I do not harbour any Ill will nor any feelings at all to the trans community, they are free to live their life as they see fit as am I.
What I do object to is the fact that if we don’t openly champion and support their lifestyle we are labelled bigots and anti this or that.
0.01% of the population is held up like a barometer to guage tolerance…I don’t believe this will end well for the 0.01%

  2. Have you actually though this through. Are you yourself not doing harm to the chances of the political left.

Your argument on this matter is very convincing.

But shining a light on the ambitions of the woke raises the anxiety of many progressives. Many well known progressives (liberals and socialists) are moving towards backing conservative values. Pinker, Haidt, McWorther, Trotter…….. They will probably never vote conservative but they have come to fear the woke.

Reformed Marxists like Thomas Sowell scores many convincing points for the conservative movement.

    • The problem is – what NZ political party espouses moderate conservative values? The Nats don’t – they’re neoliberals. ACT don’t either – they’re libertarians/classical liberals.

      • Haidt even argues that there is beauty and comfort in “believing” in the Christian god. I will argue that this is a group value, not a conservative value.

Patriotism, care, fairness, rule of law, peace through strength, free markets, human dignity, fiscal responsibility, limited government, property rights….

        • I went googling for “conservative values”, but what’s online is dominated by AMERICAN conservative values.

It’s pretty hard to agree on what “conservatism” means. Paternalistic Toryism emphasizes the responsibilities of the ruling classes, rather than their rights. And one of the points Jordan Peterson has made is that meaning in life comes from responsibilities more than from “rights”. One core feature of conservatism is (I think) the belief that human nature is inherently “flawed” – I suppose that might be covered in your “rule of law” point. Chesterton’s Fence could be added to your list – quoted by Simon Bridges in his valedictory speech. Conservatives believe in institutions that have stood the test of time e.g. constitutional monarchy, parliamentary democracy, marriage – a list to which you might add Christianity in its more traditional forms, especially the Orthodox church.

  3. What a charming man Mr Lal is (not).

Why did the prize of young New Zealander not go to someone doing something useful, rather than an extremist on the fringe

    • Lower wages. More unstable workforce. Diversity was meant to assure in a new wave of prosperity. Now we are eying down a Chinese century.

  4. I no longer use Lal’s preferred they/them pronouns since he doesn’t bother observing other people’s preferred pronouns. For example, I saw Lal was referring to transwoman Rachel McGonigal as ‘he’ on Twitter.

  5. The incel boigurls are mentals. It probably something they caught from the retarded green party.

Post 2023 NZ General Election they’ll all be over.

  6. I’d love to know who at kiwibank, nominated, endorsed and awarded this nasty clown NZer of the year?
I feel like closing my account and removing my money, not out of protest, but fear.
If those idiots think it’s suitable for NZer of the year, then they probably think investing my money with Mark Bryers and Eric Watsons is also a good idea.

Jacinta Gulasekharam, Co-Founder, Dignity NZ, Human Centered Designer, PwC

Of course head judge Jamie Fenton is a transwoman.

    • Mick: “I feel like closing my account and removing my money, not out of protest, but fear.”

I’ve closed my accounts there. When asked why, I told them. I came close to doing it over the Magictalk business. This time, I’ve done it.

      Go woke, go broke, Kiwibank!

  7. Kiwibank gives the middle finger salute to all hardworking, diligent young New Zealanders when they chose that narcissistic Lal as Kiwibank young nz’er of the year.

    • Scary the ease of credibility to the manipulative.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has admitted he made “a huge mistake” in spending time with sex offender and disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Mr Gates told CNN he had “several dinners” about a philanthropy project that did not emerge, and should not have given him “credibility”.

  8. We all have to ‘hang off writing’ till the next election?

Let’s just produce a good case for the majority of the people without forgetting the minority of the people.

Don’t let the powerful divide, and ,so, rule even the people’s cause. Which is how I feel about you and Chris a bit.

  9. Oh, don’t worry. Like Kim Dot Com Sahneel Lal will fade away. In 5, 10 or 20 years who will remember who they were.

  10. I dont see the harm in it. Given what Lal is up againt. Far right relgious fundamentalists who want to drive LGBT’s out of public life.

    • Millay: “Far right relgious fundamentalists who want to drive LGBT’s out of public life.”

I’ve seen nothing of this. Could you please adduce some evidence for it? A link or two, perhaps.
