Living Worldwise: Life Beyond School | Episode 6: Journey to becoming an award-winning Costume Designer with Erin Slattery Black
In this episode, two of our IBCP performance and production students speak with Erin Slattery Black, a three-time Daytime Emmy Award winner as Costume Designer for Sesame Street, about her entry into the business and what it takes to have a career in the industry. Erin’s career has included costuming for theatre, television, film and opera; she has worked extensively with the Jim Henson Company and the Netflix original series Julie’s Greenroom with Julie Andrews. Her work can also be seen in the movie Spy Kids as well as on Broadway in The Lion King and Willy Wonka. Erin is currently the Visiting Arts Professor at TISCH, The School of the Arts at New York University.

Clarissa has spent nearly two decades reporting from the front lines worldwide. With her desire to uncover the truth and tell the stories of ordinary citizens affected by the atrocities of war, Clarissa has bravely gained unprecedented access to situations and territories and conducted interviews with everyone from citizens to Prime Ministers and Presidents. Her understanding and sensitivity to each subject matter has made her one of the most respected war correspondents today. She speaks to two of our Y13 History students and our Head of History on how 9-11 changed her career trajectory, the importance of curiosity when pursuing journalism, and the breakdown in communication that led to dehumanisation.

In this episode, we welcome Roo Pigott as our guest speaker. Roo is a trailblazer in the music industry, from creating the world’s first fan-funded record label to owning live music venues and festivals in the UK to being the inventor of VCode – a pioneering cloud-based database. His latest venture, Prolific Songs, is a music publishing company with 13 number 1’s and 15 top 10 hits in multiple countries. Roo has also held workshops with our Senior School students on developing compositional and songwriting skills on various occasions. Today he speaks with three Senior School students and our Director of Music, Canice Gleeson, about how to succeed in the music industry.
