SAHRR '24, FINISHED QUILT

This week I finished up my Stay at Home Round for 2024.  This was hosted by Quilting Gail and a number of 5 other co-hosts.  Each week we would be given a prompt to for another round on our project.

Last year I had picked up a baggie of blocks and various components on the free table at our guild.  All except the last round and the white plain blocks came out of the freebie baggie.  This will be donated to Mercyful Quilts in Sacramento, through our guild that benefits hospice patients at Mercy Hospital.

I will be linking up at Quilting Gail.  Many thanks to Gail and the other bloggers for another fun SAHRR.

Thanks for stopping by!

Slow Sunday Stitching

                                                       Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I don't know that I will have a typical St. Patrick's Dinner tonight, but I might be able to go get some corned beef from the deli and have a sandwich.

It's been another busy week, with community service quilt pin basting day, and Katie and I worked at the plant sale on Saturday in the Begonia booth.  I bought a few new plants, and a Cymbidium orchid at another booth.

One of the highlights of my week was getting my Ella Maria Deacon quilt back from the long arm quilter.  I had requested custom quilting and Leisha outdid herself.  I spent several days just looking at the beautiful quilting.  I need to get the binding on this one for our May quilt show.  I showed it to one of the quilt show organizers and she said they needed to set up a rack so both sides could be seen at the show.

This week I also finished another quilt binding for the quilt show.  This is my Blessings Quilt.  One-fourth of this was started in 1999 and then put in a bag for over 20 years with the fabrics.  I pulled it out of the closet last year and started finishing up the embroidery and making the pieced blocks.

I also finished up 3 more blocks for granddaughter Klara's wall hanging.  I got one of the sloth blocks done before her birthday, then my embroidery machine needed to go into shop for some problems.  I plan to get this together and give it to her for her Easter.  I cut the sloths out with the die from Accuquilt, and cut the words out with iron on vinyl from my Cricut machine.  I asked granddaughter Klara if there were some words she wanted me to put on this, and she suggested "Its temporary".

For Slow Sunday Stitching this week, I will be working on the binding for my Ella Maria Deacon quilt.   I will be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Head on over and see what everyone has been working on.

Thanks for stopping by!

Give It a Whirl Blog Hop Coming Soon

The Give It a Whirl Blog Hop is coming up next week, hosted by the amazing Carol @Just Let Me Quilt.

The Challenge:    Somewhere in or on your project you must include a "whirl".   This can be a pinwheel, Dresden, or anything that looks like it's spinning.   Maybe a merry-go-round or Ferris wheel in the fabric?

This is the line-up of bloggers for the hop:

SLOW SUNDAY STITCHING

It was another busy week for me.  I had a Dr. appt, for some headaches, I wake up with them, and go to bed with them.  I had a head CT that was clear, so I guess it is my sinuses causing the problem and got a nose spray.  I had a dental hygiene appt, but found out I am going to need deep cleaning, which will happen this coming week.

My daughter Katie asked if I could watch the two younger grandchildren for 2 days, Thursday and Friday while she joined her husband in Las Vegas where he was at a business convention.  So I watched John and Klara Thursday and Friday.  It involved getting them to and from school in two different school districts but we did fine.    I didn't think of getting a picture while they were here, but this is a fairly recent one of Katie and the kids.

I worked on Klara's sloth wall hanging while she was here.  This was intended to be part of her BD present from October, but my embroidery machine rebelled and ended up in the shop.  These were from my Accuquilt sloth die.  In one of their examples they had "hang in there" on their wall hanging.  I asked Klara if she would like that, or she had some other phrase in mind.  She told me she would like "Its temporary".   I have all the blocks done now.

I hope to finish this up, and give it to her for Easter.

This week I also worked on a lot of slow stitching.   I got the binding on, and sewn down on the Blessings Quilt but don't have a good picture of it yet.

I also finished up the my project for the International Embroidery Month Stitch Along by Crabapple Hills Designs.

When I went to San Diego, I gave my friend a mug rug in which I used one of my Kathy Schmitz's embroideries.  I decided I really loved it and started another one.

This is what I will be working on for Slow Sunday Stitching.

I also had a chance to get caught up on Woven Wreaths stitch along by Kathy Schmitz.

I'll be linking up with Kathy's Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Head over and see what other's are up to!

That's it for now.  Thanks for stopping by!

Dust Off A Quilt Book Blog Hop Today

The Dust off a Quilt Book Blog Hop is today, hosted by the amazing Bea @Beaquilter.  I look forward to this hop every year as I have a lot of quilt books saved as I have something I want to make in them.

When Bea gave me a choice of days for this blog hop, I chose March 7th.  This would have been my mother's 92nd birthday.  I was the first of four children, and my mother was 18 when she had me.  My mother loved roosters and chickens and I inherited a lot of her chicken and rooster porcelains and pictures.

So in honor of my mother's birthday today  I decided to make something with a rooster in it.  It came from this booklet, that didn't even have a published date in it.

My mother would have loved this guy.  He brightens up my living room.  My mother passed away in 1997 at the age of 65.  I have to say that after she passed away I found myself purchasing a lot of chicken and rooster fabric!  But the background for this pillow I found at Hobby Lobby and I couldn't seem to leave the store without it.

Visit the other quilters and see what quilt book they have dusted off.  Thanks again Bea for the invitation to participate in one of my favorite hops!

HQAL, Slow Sunday Stitching

It's been a couple of weeks since I checked in for Slow Sunday Stitching.  Last weekend my daughter Kristen, SIL Jeff, and I took a trip to San Diego.  We got there a little early and spent an hour at my old hangout, the beach in Carlsbad, CA.

My sister kindly let us stay with her while we were in Southern California.  We made a visit to San Diego Zoo on Friday.

That evening we went to a favorite Mexican Restaurant of both John and his parents.  It is called Fidel's in Solana Beach.  We used to live right down the street.  It was just as wonderful as it was when I first started going in 1973.

Saturday I was able to visit with an dear friend of John and I that has had a rough couple of years.  It was really good to visit with her.  I also wanted to show Kristen and Jeff where we used to live in Vista.  We moved to Vista from Maryland in 1964 when I was 14, and I lived there till I left home at 22.

This was realtors card for the house when we bought it.   It was on an acre of land.  There were lemon trees in the back, some fig trees along the side, and there were some kumquat trees along the property line.

As we were standing outside the gate, and explaining to Kristen and Jeff the way it used to be, I think we made the residents a little nervous, so after we took the picture we took off.  I had hoped to visit the little 90+ year neighbor lady I used to babysit for, but she was busy.  I made her a little quilt before I left, and am hoping my sister has a chance to take it to her.  Lighting was bad when I took the picture as it had been raining and the lighting isn't that great in my house if it is raining.  This was from the Star Kissed Quiltalong by Wedding Dress Blue.  I used up a long of my 2.5 inch scrap squares.

On our way to and from San Diego, about a 6-7 hour trip, I worked on the Crabapple Hill Studio Embroidery Month Stitch Along.

I'm almost finished with all the embroidery.  The next step is to cut these apart, and put a batting between them and a backing and stitching close to the edge of the hearts.  They will then be mounted and framed in a setting all together.

I also worked on my Kathy Schmitz Woven Wreaths.   I need to finish this up for Slow Sunday Stitching.

Check out the other Hand Stitch Along links below.

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.
