Goya Curtainがメルボルン在住アーティスト、ロニー・バン・ハウト作「The Giants」をお届けい たします。

ロニー・バン・ハウトの作品は人生の不条理に足を踏み入れ、自己の奇妙さ、それがいかに凡庸か つ特異でありえるか探求しています。氏の作品は彫刻、パブリックアート、映像作品などにより構 成され、自画像、芸術史、ポップカルチャー、映画、そして家族など様々なソースから引用されて いる。

フランシスコ・デ・ゴヤの『巨人』にインスパイアされた本作は、２体の「奇妙な子どもたち」の 抽象彫刻で構成されており、この彫刻は潜在意識の深く奥にひそむ何か怪物的なものを想起させま す。彫刻に付随する映像はバン・ハウトの子どものヴィが大きな枝を棍棒としてプリンターを叩き 潰す様子が映し出されています。

ロニー・バン・ハウト：1962年生まれ。ニュージーランド、クライストチャーチ出身。1990年代後 半よりオーストラリア、メルボルン在住。

Goya Curtain presents ‘The Giants’, an exhibition by Melbourne based artist Ronnie van Hout.

Adventuring into the absurdity of life, Ronnie van Hout’s art explores the uncanniness of the self and how ordinary and weird it can be. His work encompasses sculpture, public artworks and video and draws on multiple sources, such as self-portraiture, art history, pop culture, cinema, and family life.

Originally inspired by Francisco Goya's 'The Colossus', 'The Giants' consists of two figurative sculptures of 'uncanny children' that appear to evoke something monstrous lurking in the depths of the subconscious. The sculptures are accompanied by a new video work showing van Hout’s teenage child Vi smashing a printer using a large tree limb as a club.

Ronnie van Hout was born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1962 and has lived in Melbourne, Australia since the late 1990s. He is represented by Darren Knight Gallery, Sydney, STATION, Melbourne, Ivan Anthony Gallery, Auckland and Hamish McKay, Wellington.
