Inspiration

Environments interest me, particularly how people imprint on and transform the land in both urban and rural contexts.

Really engaging the viewer is another priority for me and I use large scale, novel perspective, and more recently, colour and light, to capture the attention of the viewer.

Sometimes I start with a specific idea for a painting, although it often morphs into something else as the painting takes on a life of its own.

Mostly I begin by making marks randomly across the picture plane and then stand back to see what has started to emerge, developing the composition from there.

I think it’s very important to be flexible and constantly revising decisions when involved with image making.
