Active Hope - a Journey and a Book

Start: Wednesday, July 24, 2019 7:00 PM

End: Wednesday, July 24, 2019 9:30 PM

Together with Friends of the Earth Northern Ireland, we are hosting our next book club event in Belfast on July 24th from 7pm to 9:30pm at Lúnasa Cafe.

Join us for a conversation on the transformational book and philiosophy of Active Hope: 'Building resilience and strength to face the mess we’re in without going crazy'.

We welcome Anne Symens-Bucher, an American of Irish descent who is honoured to have the opportunity to be on Irish soil offering a body of work that has profoundly shaped and formed her own life. The Work That Reconnects draws from deep ecology, living systems theory, and spiritual traditions, grows our courage, resilience, and solidarity for the healing of our world.

Anne currently serves as Joanna Macy’s executive assistant. She has traveled extensively with Joanna, participated in dozens of Macy’s workshops and is herself a facilitator of the 'Work That Reconnects'. Anne has been involved in work for justice, peace, nuclear disarmament, nonviolence, and ecological sustainability for more than 35 years.

We will be joined also by local well-being practitioners and activists from the Earth Justice and Climate Movement to discuss the theory and practice of Active Hope. We will end with creative contributions including music and poetry.

Active Hope is about finding, and offering, our best response to the crisis of sustainability unfolding in our world. It offers tools that help us face the mess we’re in, as well as find and play our role in the collective transition to a life-sustaining society.

At the heart of this book is the idea that Active Hope is something we do rather than have.

“Books about social and ecological change too often leave out a vital component: how do we change ourselves so that we are strong enough to fully contribute to this great shift? Active Hope fills this gap beautifully, guiding readers on a journey of gratitude, grief, interconnection and, ultimately, transformation.” - Naomi Klein

Hope you can join us!
