NURSES employed by Superdrug are volunteering for the National Health Service, the health-and-beauty retailer said today.
The company employs more than 100 nurses in England who normally work across its 82 high street clinics.
However, a number of its in-store services have been suspended, in line with government guidance to close non-essential outlets.
Superdrug healthcare director Michael Henry said: "We have an incredibly dedicated, compassionate and professional team of nurses and they have chosen to directly support the NHS in the fight against coronavirus alongside our NHS pharmacy teams.
“We’ll do everything we can to support them and the public during these extraordinary times."
Staff salaries will continue to be paid by Superdrug.
More than 670,000 people had signed up for the NHS volunteer programme within 48 hours yesterday, prompting the government to increase the target to 750,000.
And around 38,000 former healthcare professionals and soon-to-be qualified students could join the fight against Covid-19 in the coming weeks, the government said.
